My copy from Diabolik should hopefully arrive on Monday along with the Ringu collection. Can’t wait. I’ll probably try to do a Werewolf movie marathon with this being the last film I watch.

Quite a few "4K scans" are being done on 6K or 8K datacines these days, it just doesn't get announced as such because it's there for the benefits of oversampling at the point of capture and people will just get the wrong end of the stick. If NBC post are still using Arriscans then that "4K scan" they did for Arrow's AWIL will actually have been scanned at 6K capture (using the Arri's 3K sensor in a micro-offset double flash mode) with data output to 4K on the fly.

Kudos to Arrow for actually saying that they did the restoration itself in 2K though, they've been a little bit naughty IMO with their selective wording lately by stating that something was "a restoration from a 4K scan" without actually mentioning it was finished out to 2K. (One wonders what this bodes for an eventual Uni UHD.)

Thank you for your thoughts but I don't get why people keep going back to the question of detail over and over again? The previous remaster had stunning detail - at least for what this kind of stock and photography can accomplish - but it simply didn't look like film, at all, and if the Arrow has righted that wrong along with providing the OG mono audio then it'll be worth its weight in monster dream Nazi gold to me.

So my diabolik dvd order shipped today..and now amazon is saying ive been upgraded to get my copy release day. Lol. Wonder if i should get two copies now..

The 5.1 audio was created with the lower-pitch elements. While software could be used to fix the pitch, it still can't do anything for all the new gunshot sounds, etc. I'm not surprised they didn't do anything with the 5.1 audio. It is what it is (and it should never have been, IMO).

I've heard it theorized that it was an error created by taking the 25fps PAL soundtrack and slowing it down for NTSC after it had been digitally pitch corrected for PAL. Stupid things happen, so that wouldn't surprise me.

Everything about this release sounds awesome but I'm so tired of buying the same movie over and over again. I will pick up the eventual 4k but am still debating getting this one.

They definitely might not. If they do then that's $60 for two releases of a movie I've already bought four times prior. Just don't know if its worth getting two more times.

I'm all for preserving the original audio, I think it's great they included it, but I'm also ok with surround remixes being offered.

This will be the first time I get to hear the mono and a corrected pitch for the 5.1 since I didn't discover the film until Blu-ray.
