Look at the heatmaps analysis:
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...&postcount=544 See the "Average light level" specified in those images. It's max ~100 nits, for the brightest images. So there seems to be a disagreement between those images and the graph you posted. Or the images that were analyzed happened to be much darker than the brightest ones in the whole movie. @Macatouille:
Have you been able to find any image from "Bad Boys (1995)" that has a FALL close to the MaxFALL of 5160 nits specified in the graph posted by Mierzwiak (or 4864 nits specified in the disc's metadata)? Would be interesting to see what kind of content those images show if actually using that high FALL. |

Wow, that MaxFALL image at 4507 nits is insane!
Not that any currently available TV will be able to display it as bright as intended. But one day when we have TVs capable of full screen brightness at 5000 nits, people will get blinded! ![]() ![]() |

![]() I don't specifically look for high light levels when I pull shots. I have ffmpeg set to pull a screenshot every 30 seconds and then I delete any blurry ones or duplicates (like if there's a shot/reverse shot in the same environment we only need one of those). I'm just trying to get a sample of the different lighting conditions. It's definitely not a definitive survey. |

![]() I recently bought a BD-XL reader for my PC and will start doing some analysis. Some of the titles I'll be looking at are the following: Rad Flesh for Frankenstein The Inugami Family They Live Lost Highway Ready Player One Howards End Bayan Ko Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas The Natural Leon (Sony) And a few others. If any of these are of extra interest, or if any of them already have been analyzed, please let me know. Last edited by nissling; 07-22-2023 at 02:15 PM. |

So I just did my first attempt and it ended up being The Natural. Respectable averages and several really spectacular shots. Most colors are within the BT.709 color gamut yet look very good.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
Absolutely phenomenal usage of both HDR and the wide color gamut. I'm stunned. Heatmaps [Show spoiler] Gamut Visualizations [Show spoiler]

I'll get there.
Lost Highway Conservative color timing but the impact of HDR is still very powerful. Especially thanks to those flashing moments. There is still some white clipping however at various levels. The nude scene also show some FPN which makes me believe that the negative has had very high density and thus difficult to digitize. It's extremely minor and not exactly visible during viewing unless you really know what to look for. Colors are very much BT.709 with a few exceptions which I think suits the film great. The Inugami Family Very much in line with my former post, the HDR is quite discreet but used wisely. There are striking moments and no real sign of clipping caused by grading, making it a pleasant presentation in terms of brightness. Colors are mostly restricted to BT.709 but it does reach DCI-P3 on occasion. The only real drawback is the noise reduction. Heatmaps [Show spoiler] Gamut visualization [Show spoiler]
