Glad they changed it.

So apparently Scream 2 was supposed to end with an image of a Ghostface on top of the college’s clock tower and this image apparently confirms it was a real scene

I’m guessing it was just meant as a sequel hook and wasn’t supposed to necessarily be an important character bu obviously they decided against it

Anyone could've taken that photo of someone in the ghost face costume...

On the commentary track, Wes Craven says the decision to
[Show spoiler]keep Dewey alive
was made at the last second. Good call. Many filmgoers never forgave him for
[Show spoiler]offing Randy
in Scream 2...(I thought it was ballsy)

Craven mentions this in the commentary for Scream 2. They used the rehearsal helicopter shot because the shot with Ghostface in the tower was too obvious a set-up for a sequel.

Scream (1996) Opening Scene - Part 3/3 - YouTube

at 1:37 she is COVERED in blood when the shot changes after she falls from first being stabbed in the chest. Looks like she has two dark spots on her chest. Then she has blood on her pants, on her back, even around her wrists.

Yeah I noticed those mysterious extra stab wounds, but I’m glad they didn’t stick her like a pig over and over again - the scene is already extreme as it is. The rest of the series is tame compared to the legendary opener.

I definitely prefer the unrated though - stu’s innards tumbling out and Drew hanging above her visibly steaming guts are potent images. Kenny’s slashed throat and BillyStu’s bloodier stab fest bring the last act more in line with the first act violence.

They definitely made the right choice to keep Dewey alive… but for how long??

No but the fact that Disney wouldn’t allow any unrated material meant that we never got an unrated DVD (though Japan did), let alone a blu-ray. I don’t know if Disney still controls it but even if they don’t - Wes isn’t around anymore to push for his version.

Perhaps one day Shout Factory or suchlike will get the rights and give it a proper release, but I can’t see a big studio giving this any love and attention. Historically they have treated the Scream series like some dirt on the side of a shoe, which is stupid since it’s a rare horror series that has actually kept the quality ball in the air.

The rights are with Paramount right now for Scream 1 - 3 and Scream 5.

Whether they cared enough to do an unrated cut for this one is anyone’s guess right now. I’m hoping they did.

If not, like you said, some niche label will hopefully pick it up down the line and provide an unrated cut in 4K/HDR.

The pre-order for the steelbook version, with a genuine release date, has been available on Bullmoose for a couple of weeks now. The release is both real and confirmed.

Disney no longer owns Miramax.

Wow didn’t know that. That’s pretty wild and out there for a scream movie I mean who would it have meant to be one of the cult students from what was supposed to be the original s3 story Roman wasn’t even planned when making this one

I wouldn't be surprised if we got a barebones 4k release now and then a box set with the extended scenes to get fans to double dip. And let's not forget a Scream (1996)/Scream (2022) double pack first.

I don’t think scream has ever had a box set but I could be wrong. My expectation is they’ll do the sequels as individual releases too.

There was a DVD box set and a Blu-ray box set of the first 3 films.

Canada had a set with all four, since the Canadian distributor had rights to Miramax and The Weinstein Company.

[Show spoiler]If you mean Stu, I always thought it would be interesting if Matthew Lillard reprised his role, like his character is in prison and survived the whole thing (with some bad injuries of course). They never once mentioned he has died in any of the movies, so they still have a shot at doing that if they wanted to.

They should've just used it in the middle of the film somewhere. Mickey could've been there on the phone talking to Randy and watching them, and Mrs. Loomis could've been in the van waiting.
