Okay ill go through a list of common solutions for various problems and you tell me which ones you have already tried, this will help others as well.
Have you attempted to reboot the ps3? *turning it off and turning it back on* Have you checked the hdmi cable is it firmly plugged in or is it wiggly, I sometimes lose audio if the cable was not securely plugged in all the way. Have you checked your audio settings and have the ps3 pick the audio settings? As there are some higher end ones that you may have accidentally selected in which the blu-ray movie tried to play. Have many movies have you tried? or did you only try one... Have you tried a different HDMI cable? Thats all of what I can think of on the top of my head... Hope one of these help. Quote:

sounds like you might be set up to bitstream over hdmi (tv's can't always convert this to sound). change the HDMI setting to linearPCM
Triangle while a movie is playing, then to sound settings. I forget where it is under the normal XMB settings menu |

yes - games are PS3 games.
I have checked the cable - which I kind of ruled out since all other audio is working. I have only tried 1 movie, I was thinking that was the case as well, but haven't tried it as of yet. I did reset the PS3 with the support from Sony. It really is a head scratcher.... |

This would explain why things like CDs, DVDs and games are working, but BDs aren't |

Hold down the power button for 15 seconds, it is probably set at the wrong resolution for your TV.

do you have the latest system updates?
are your audio settings checked off accordingly? (EX if you have a 5.1 system you do NOT check the 7.1 boxes) are you using LPCM as your output and NOT bitstream? ps3 can not bitstream lossless audio do ps3 BLU RAY games work or only dvd based ps3 games? -DADDYS HOME |

Hy Gang,
Just wanted to thank everyone especially Marine Mike, for the thread. Iwas able to swap out clunker optical drive last night on my original 80gig- it failed after 17 months of very light use. The first disc I inserted after I put it back together got stuck but I was able to carefully take it aback apart with the disc still in the drive, remove it and make sure all of disc loading mechanisms were working and not stuck(just jiggled them). I would recommend a pair of tweezers as well as the proper screw drivers(philps and torx). There is no way I could of removed or replaced all of those small screws with out them because fat fingers. There was also a small slider spring which was not pictured I had to remove from the old laser and install on the new one but all in all it went pretty smoothly with a little patience. Thanks again. P.S. Marine Mike I hope your worng about these things being a flawed design, I would hate to go through this every 6 months or so. Good luck with yours. |

![]() Can you please provide me a picture with the slider spring you are referring to please? Also I too hope that I am wrong with the original lasers being flawed and eventually will die out as I don't even know if a new laser will fix my current issue. |

I believe it is there to keep the laser assembly stable as slides since that part of the laser just rests on the rail/slide and doesn't have the two guides for the rail to pass through. |

Here is pic of the spring. There is a slot/hole on the new/good third party laser assembly for it for it to be screwed onto. Like I said I almost missed it. I hope you still have it or you did install it. It looks like it would provide some type of stabliity or keep the assembly form torquing, binding or vibrating when sliding back and fourth.
