Check some of the YT reaction videos and see if any of their snippets reveal it. I'm guessing that can answer it.

I don't know which parts of the film changed frame to check, but to maintain the magic of my viewings I'm not going to watch those reaction videos till I see it again.

I thought it was good and rated it four stars. A little overhyped maybe but that's because I am seeing it so late.

Looked great and had great music.

Coogler seems to have aimed the film's visuals at a theatrical audience, rather than a home TV audience.

I saw it on film: 70mm Ultra Panavision, so it was using 1.25x squeeze anamorphic lenses which you would think might make the image a little soft. Not so, it was about the most detailed film image I've ever seen. Literally the single best example of film projection I can recall seeing (and I've spent years in both film projection booths and decades in film audiences). I was so impressed at how good it looked I wrote an email of praise to the theater's team, something I've never done before in my life.

If using a 2.76:1 aspect ratio helped inspire the production's visuals and film image quality, I'm all in favor of it. If a film is intended for theaters, especiall including the extra cost and expense today of shooting on film, I think the filmmakers should be able to use all the theatrical film qualities they find most artistically expressive and simply do their best to translate it for home audiences in the later transfer. I do hope that Coogler and Arkapaw are deeply involved in that transfer and mastering.

I didn't see SINNERS in IMAX. The compositions all looked great in 2.76, nothing seemed missing or unbalanced. Eventually I'll watch it on 4K and see if the larger IMAX images are more impactful. But I found plenty of impact in the ultra wide screen version. And know I happen to be lucky that I live in one of the couple dozen locations that is able to show the 70mm UP on film.

I think 70mm IMAX was decidedly better than 5-perf 70mm - although I enjoyed both.

Question for those who saw this in IMAX, I rewatched this digitally last night and knew it would have the expanded aspect ratio for the IMAX scenes, however one of the featurettes mentioned the scene in town was filmed in IMAX, yet surprisingly that scene did not have the expanded aspect ratio. So was that scene expanded in IMAX theaters? Just odd if it wasn’t considering they said it was filmed in IMAX.

I don't think it bothered people with The Hateful Eight and that movie doesn't even switch ratios. Even for a standard blu the detail is quite abundant and looks incredible.

Great movie though I didn't expect it to be about
[Show spoiler]vampires
of all things. Michael B. Jordan definitely made it worth watching.

The scene of Smoke in the store doesn't look like IMAX - the depth of field is deeper, the bokeh has a slight oval shape which suggests an anamorphic frame. They could be referring to the brief scene of the shopkeepers getting in their car to head to the club, which was shot in IMAX and does fill the frame.

Default As opinionated as they are uninformed

Though I didn't much like this movie, it's so annoying to peruse Letterboxd user reviews and read stuff like "made by a Marvel guy" and "Coogler's first non-MCU movie".

He had already made a name for himself with Fruitvale Station and Creed before venturing into blockbusters, but apparently those movies are too obscure for some.

It’s well put together but not really my thing.

As it’s though, I’d give the first half a 7/10, the last half a 6/10 so I land at a 6.5/10.

The best movie Coogler has made is Creed and it isn’t even close.
Have to agree with you about Creed being my favorite of his.

Rented this today and found it to be at least 15 minutes longer than needed. The musical scene with Sammie singing/playing started off great, but it took me out of it when they introduced the past/present.

My favorite scenes were
[Show spoiler] Smoke killing the KKK idiots, Sammie with the boss vamp in the water, and the credit scene with Stack & Sammie (Buddy Guy).

I do think everyone did a great job and would probably watch it again, but I definitely didn’t love it like so many of you did.

Honestly, I was just in love with the cinematography the whole time, and the past/present scene cemented my affinity for the sheer quality of filmmaking Coogler possesses and displayed on screen.

Funny. I think that scene
[Show spoiler]wasn't wild at all especially when it comes to spiritual/cultural mysticism they were going for.
Made sense as hindsight as it obviously is.
