So I got the c50's installed yesterday and they are huge compared to what I have! Is there any way for me to flip the back part where the wires are connected so the banana clips face downward instead of up? Looks like 4 screws holding that in place

Yeah indeed 4 screws using the proper Allan key it's not to hard.

Technically speaking it's not really a problem to put this thing up side down. Only concern I have is how much wiring are you working with inside the box. If there is enough you could just turn it without any problems. Just make sure wires are not to tight or anything.

If you unscrew it just be careful and try to see if you have enough wiring to work with other than that you would probably have to take out the drivers if you wanted to put longer wires inside and connect to the X-over but for anyone who's not a techy and does not have the right tools to do it this would be a huge challenge.

In my case I would try another solution i don't like to play with a brand new speaker with mint condition screws. What is the issue you're facing with this? Could you just go bare wire on em in this case?

You know, I think you are right regarding messing with a brand new speaker. I don't have much luck and I'd be one to ruin it. The banana clips stick out a good deal which is why I thought about flipping the binding post upside down. I didn't think about just using bare wire. Let me give that a try and see if I like it better. However, there isn't anything nicer looking than banana clips

in other news, the denon will be here Monday!

what are some opinions on

(2) CF-30 Front LR

(1) CC-10 Center

(2) CR-10 Surrounds

(1) ESW-C8 Subwoofer
for $980?

I was convinced acoustech set would be a good deal for the money but then i seen this at sounddistributors... thanks in advance

Energy always makes great speakers, the new Connosieur series that you are talking about is said to be a little brighter sounding then the older C-series most of us have. That said, the reviews have been met with a good response and I think one of the guys with the older C-series said he heard them and that they were nice speakers. Yes brighter then the older series, but detail and overall sound was excellent.

I think there have been complaints about the C8/C10 subwoofers. I think if its a packaged deal then you would be a good place to start and for the price its an excellent setup, but if you can get them to reduce the price $100 or so and get a different sub, you may be happier with a Premier Acoustic PA-120 $229 or Acoustic Audio HD-Sub10 $170 or Sub 12. $199

Personally, I think you would be happy owning this setup. You should listen to it too, if you can, that way you know what you are buying.

If you are in the US, then you could also look at these RC-30s and this RC-LCR and add these RC-Mini surrounds

That would be the reference series and it would run you about $1000, its all on sale at the moment. Then add a sub later.

unfortunatly i cant demo either because the only electronic store in a 30mile radius is bestbuy. i heard their klipsch's which i was impressed with so thats why i wanted the acoustechs. but energy's reputation and good reviews makes this a a tough decision. also good idea about subtracting $100 off for a different sub they probably will do that.

Klipsch are nice speakers but for me they are much too bright, meaning they are forward sounding and can get annoying on the ear during long periods of listening. I am not a big fan of the Horns.

The Energys would be warmer or more laidback and less in your face, but will still have the detail and depth. Energys are much better suited for music then Klipsch IMHO. I think you would find yourself very happy with the Energys, I have listened to a lot of different speakers, and yes there are some better but in their price range it is hard to argue a $500-750 speaker that is much better.

If you can spring for the Reference Connosiuers that I listed above and add a subwoofer later, that is a killer deal and they are very nice speakers. They are the top of the line Energys and for about the same price as the Entry level CFs/CBs/CCs, you would be better off and happier. If you call them they may even give you a better deal then the $1000 I posted.

Just thought I would drop in a post some pics of the C-50's. The stands are the Sanus EF-SATB stands and they are quite nice. My only gripe with them is I wish the speaker wire ran under neath the base instead of on top of it.

The Denon receiver arrives Monday and I can't wait!

Default Hey guys

Hey guys,

I missed this thread so I'm back. Just wanted to write about these old Energy 2.1es I picked up on CAM for a buddy. They are the predecessors to the predecessors of the original connoiseur. I read somewhere that they are similar to a bookshelf version of the pro 22s.

These things have got to be about 15 years old, and I can't beleive the condition they are in. Very good! Either the previous owner had them sealed up somehwere in a closet for the last 10 years, or Energy makes speakers to last.

They sound really good. I compared them directly with c-200s. The 2.1es are brighter, but also seem to "evelope" you more. I don't have the specs, but woofer size looks the same, only the cabinet is way higher and wider, with the c-200s being a little deeper into the back. These babys really seemed to fill the room better than the c-200s. The c-200s have better extention and more punch in the bass, but when set to small and using my sub, that became irrelevant. My Yamaha receiver is definately not the best way to drive these speakers, but with a warmer sounding receiver I think I may like these even more than the c-200s. These were made in Canada by the way.

I'm very impressed by such an old and "cheap" speaker. When I see a good deal sometime I will pick some bookshelfs from the original connoiseur series and see how they stack up against those.

Vann's is running some insanely good deals on Energy RC speakers now, especially on bundles. Here's one:

http://www.vanns.com/shop/servlet/it...80/energy-rc50

Look in the lower right corner where it says "Bundle up & Save!". Two cherry RC-50's, two RC-R's and a cherry RC-LCR for under $1,400! That's like buying the two RC-50's at a sale price and getting the rest for free. AND...no sales tax & free ground shipping!

Here's another:

http://www.vanns.com/shop/servlet/it...5/energy-rclcr

Two cherry RC-50's and a cherry RC-LCR for $1000.

First of all welcome Back Nice to see such enthusiasm regarding those speakers. The way you describe them sounds like almost the CB-20 brighter room filling and a bit less bass but still sounds amazing with music. But most important thing tho they are made in Canada CB-20 are not. Sweet!!!

Capt. Nice to have ya back with us!

I just purchased some C-50's and the C-C50 center channel. I need some speaker wire to complete this package. Am i better off buying wires which are already attatched to banana plugs, or purchasing them seperately from a place like monoprice. I have never wired speakers before. Is this something a novice would do?

Dylan, great to have you back. We all love to hear one's enthusiasm and experiences with Energy Speakers.

I was quite pleased with the performance of the C-200s until I got the C-300s which although having the same drivers, just goes to show why I prefer towers over bookshelf speakers.

Sounds like the 2.1es would do nice even now for listening to music from old PCM 2.0 CDs or for background music in one's office or study.

Hi Hiphop! Welcome to the thread.

I'm no expert, but it sounds like the last option (with the banana jacks connected) is quite reasonably priced and would work just fine. It appears to have all of the features most would look for in those items, plus, you don't have to do the work of connecting everything yourself.

If you're still not sure, you might check this thread for some advice from others more knowledgeable than myself:

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=50625

Congrats on the speaker purchase!

Welcome in the community and congrats on the purchase.

As Bluray ne1 said just follow the link he posted for the thread on the bana plugs but it's a matter of choice of course if you want to save yourself some work I'd go with second option since the price is reasonable. You would save yourself some $$$ if you go with the 2nd option but is it worth taking the time to do it yourself?

Welcome to the club mate, I know the feeling when you say those 15 year old speakers sound great, I have the C8 (Connoiseur) still have the original packaging, pamphlets & even the price list, my speakers are 10 years old & they still look new & sound amazing, I've heard so many brands at HIFI shops & they simply don't stack up !!!
True Story here, wen't to a HIFI shop about 2 years ago wich sold some great speakers including our beloved ENERGY so I started talking to the owner of the shop & he asked what speakers I had & so I told him & he got so excited about it, he offered me a trade & was willing to sell me a brand new pair of the Energy Veritas V2.4i at cost price with a 10% discount on top of that in exchange for my speakers however I was very happy with my speakers so I said NO !
Till this very day they still sound amazing & I don't feel the need for an up-grade at all, I just hope they continue to give me the joy & sheer pleassure for many years to come, just thought I share that with you guys
