Me? I blame marketing divisions.
Part of it is probably because when they re-release a movie, they don't want to use the same cover art because it will confuse some customers, so they just slap some crappy design together in a few minutes. Another reason is because with each new format, the height of the cases keeps getting shorter, so the artwork would either have to be cropped or opened up on the sides (if there's more picture). I say just use the original artwork and put a big sticker on the shrinkwrap saying that it features a new transfer/bonus features.

Okay, I spent 2 hours last night exploring photoshop (long time viewer, first time user ) trying to figure out how to import a .jpg image into my .pdf file that I was trying to make. I... got... nowhere... I think I'm in over my head with you guys

Looks like its gonna be awhile before I actually start to put together my first cover... I gotta read up and actually learn what the heck I'm doing before I can jump in create something. This is gonna be a long bumpy ride...

Just open the window and then drag and drop the jpg. It's that easy. Then you resize it to whatever dimensions you need in the .psd file.
Yeah, I meant .psd thanks

I'll try that, but I thought I already did, I know I couldn't get copy and paste to work... but I'll get it... thanks Imrahil!

Something I did when I first started doing these covers was not to try to create one of my own, but to re-create an official one, using it as a template and guide. That also is really helpful, and when you're done you have a sort of template of your own.
Yeah what I've been doing right now is taking covers from cdcovers.cc and opening them up to learn how the paint tool and brush tools, eraser tools and stuff work, but I tried that .jpg thing and I just couldn't figure it out... it was fun just a little frustrating... grrrrrr

I'll check out some of those tutorials and see what they got. Thanks for the advice!

Do you have some other work at a custom site or somewhere that you have done before joining blu-ray.com? If so do you have a link you could post so I could check out your covers?

Or is this something new that you're using your mad photoshop skills on

I would make the sku bar a little smaller and make the gradient a little darker.
But I still love it!

So something more along these lines?

I must say, I definately like it better with the gradient.

Hiya nichart! This is looking really good!
I did like the background that you used in post 6041 a little better though. If you stick with this one you might want to adjust the special features box font color a bit. It looks a little hard to read as it is now.

I don't know why this stupid pic won't post... grrrrr... I'm trying my hand at some Star Wars covers just to kinda get the feel for photoshop... I'm looking for a Hi Res image of this, and any other Star Wars posters... any chance someone in here has hi res images? I looked at EuphoricFX (which I am now a member YAY!) but they don't have the ones I'm looking for. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Edit... nm, I GOT IT!!! thank you for the help with the image YES!
