Wow, anyone watch Boardwalk Empire? Anthony Laciura who plays Nookie Thompson's German-American assistant/butler just sang the national anthem for the national title game. Had no idea he was an opera singer.

HBO likes to hire actors with singing ability I suppose. The guy who played Junior Soprano in The Sopranos is also a well known singer.

Love, Boardwalk...what a voice.

Let's not forget Stevie Van Zandt (Springsteen's guitarist & Silvio in the Sopranos)

Believe it or not I had to look that up just now to realize it. I actually like Springsteen too and didn't know he was a guitarist. Guess my age shows.

Looking at his band pics it doesn't even look like the same guy. They must have gone a MAJOR makeover on him for that role. He was one of my favorites on The Sopranos. The quiet, behind the scenes guy who usually kept his cool but could be ruthless when he wanted. Too bad we'll probably never know Silvio's ultimate fate. Wow, apparently his wife in The Sopranos is his real-life wife too.

Agreed when it comes to Silvio's fate . Stevie's a Great musician and I hope to see him Live one day. Springsteen is 1 of 3 bands remaining on my bucket list. My brother in law has seen him 13 times and has promised me I will not be disappointed, and has said it's on him .

I'm not sure how this got here but all of a sudden my fave "Boss" song from '75 showed up.

BCS title game -> national anthem/Boardwalk Empire actor->Sopranos->Junior Soprano->Silvio->Bruce Springsteen

I guess the six degrees of Kevin Bacon comes into play here. A few more connections and we'll probably get to you or I.

Alabama is playing exactly their style of game. This isn't looking good for LSU.

By the way, Honey Badger has to be the best nickname ever.

Nails was a good one. I saw a bit on HBO Real Sports about how Dykstra was some investment genius a few years ago. He was supposedly raking it mountains of cash. Then it turned out out to be one big scam and he's bankrupt and facing 90 years in prison on countless criminal charges from business ventures.

He was Great. Always covered in dirt, with a Giant wad of chew crammed in his cheek. Too bad he got lured into the business of ripping others off. He was always a team guy when he played, but not now.

What is going on with LSU? Can you imagine the size of the feather in Saban's hat if he beats these guys for the National Title. Not like he has a big ego or anything.

Even as a Braves fan I liked him. Even if I haven't gotten over 1993. Then again all it likely cost us was another WS loss to Toronto.

I think this is now Saban's longest coaching tenure of his career. I think he'd be best served staying at Alabama the rest of his career. He can either stay there for life and be a god on par with Bear Bryant or try the NFL again and probably fail yet again.

EDIT - That's pretty much it. A HUGE turnover that LSU could not afford.

Great pic of "Nails" Dykstra (it just says..."BASEBALL"). I remember during the '93 Series how we all agreed that the Phils went as "Nails" went...Then Carter hit an impossible pitch to hit...OUT...Walk Off, Series Over.

I truly thought LSU would win and cover. Saban was the one to turn around Michigan State before he took the LSU gig. He didn't do well with the Dolphins though. Great in College, not the pros. Sort of like Wade Phillipps...Great "D" co-ordinator but a lousy Head Coach.

Dykstra? His arms were so huge from roids that he couldn't move his arms properly when running. Recently watched game six of the 1993 World Series. After hitting a mammoth homerun, he struggled to move his arms while rounding the bases.

LSU has not crossed midfield the entire game. This is one of the worst offensive performances ever in a BCS game. Right up there with Florida St.'s 2 points against Oklahoma in the 2000 title game. It's 12-0 and pretty much over.
