They are much better than the DVD's ... even the audio is at Dolby Digital 5.1 640kbps, which is just a smidgin off of lossless. So all in all for $15 for 3 movies with decent transfers, 2 of them well over a decade old. You really can't go wrong.

Sure they could go back and scan them in a higher res, restore them, give us lossless audio, the works .... but ... would you pay $25 for each of them then? Not me. Not when I can get all these films for alot less than one of them remastered.

But then again ... I am not a HUGE fan of the series. If this was Star Wars, or Lord of Rings, my answer would be a hell yes.

On a side note ... I was looking at the trade and save deal on the District 13 Collection pack for $12 after trade in at Future Shop.

I am a bit confused, maybe someone can clarify this for me, but on the back of the packaging I saw today, it said Ultimatum was only 1080i. Not 1080p. Where as B13 was 1080p. Was this a mistype? Can someone confirm this? From reviews I have read on the Magnolia US release they are both 1080p. So did Alliance screw up this release?

They also state that only the French Language tracks are Lossless DTS-HD. The English is only Lossy Dolby 5.1.

Is this all correct?

Oh ok, good to know. Yeah for the price, I don't mind at all. Do you know what the quality is like for the Star Wars trilogies and LOTR Extended blus?

Yes sorry, terrible might be an overstatement but the first one just looked soft a lot of times. I guess I'm just used to better but they are an upgrade and like it's been said, for $15, still worth it.

The softness is very common for a lot of 80's and 90's film's. Unless the have been restored (alot of which are not), don't expect Avatar or anything is my point.

Yeah I know, I have them on DVD and I'm slowly upgrading my collection. But I am worried about buying lower quality blu-rays.

Star Wars is pretty much down to one new transfer per format.

VHS had 2 different transfers of the UOT, another 2 of the SE.

Laserdisc had 2 transfers of the UOT, 1 of the SE.

DVD had 1 transfer for the SE.

The blu-rays pretty much re-used the high definition DVD transfer with some tweaks.

Star Wars isn't the kind of movie that gets remastered even once per format, at least not anymore

If the UOT ever comes out on blu, it will be a matter of preference, not picture quality

Also, are there any others who picked up the Mission: Impossible movies for $7.99 at Future Shop (after trade-in) right before the price dropped at Best Buy?

Keep seeing all the happy campers posting about getting them for $4

Went from

I got them on Friday (the 30th) and they went on sale at BB on Monday (the 2nd)

Not sure how long it has been out at this price but anyway at BB:

African Queen $14.99

AQ was out of stock at the one BB I checked. Sorry if this has been mentioned already.

FS has a 30 day price match policy, so you could try and get the difference back, depending how much you care. -- also, Costco has the Mission Impossible movies for $8 each, no trade in needed =P

I'm considering trying. Although other members have tried and have told that they cannot get the PM because of the $5 "coupon" that has already been applied.

But seeing how BB has the movies for $8.99 AND they are letting people trade in DVDs to get them for $3.99, I don't see how this reasoning is valid...

Anyways, the worst they can say is no. I just haven't gotten around to dropping in again. The one thing that is kind of annoying is that neither M:I or M:I:II are listed on BB's website as being part of the Trade and Save...

I believe you can just outright return your MI movies at Future Shop and get your money + credit back. Then just head over to BB and get the $3.99 ones.

The STAR WARS films are amazing. I am a fan and I don't think anyone's ever seen them this clear before -- even originally in the theatre in 1977.

You can see make-up on all of the actors and seeing Darth Vader on that ship (Blockade Runner?) at the beginning is like looking through a glass window.

Definitely worth upgrading to. I only watch the BD versions, and the DVDs of the unedited trilogy.

It's probably worth a try, but I think the odds are highly against the customer in this case. PMing is one thing. PMing one of these trade and save deals is another.

Why not just try BestBuy like GreatGreg said? If they're OOS, FS wouldn't PM anyway.

Yeah I tried. The FS CSRs were being real jerks about it. Glad I went to BB.

What happens to the DVDs that get traded in? What does FS and BB do with them? Do they just trash it?

I heard they bring them to a farm outside the city, where they can roam free and be played on DVD players all day with the rest of the unwanted DVDs

Maybe they do recycle them, blu discs have to come from somewhere

so how would it work for ordering the MI series online for the trade and save? You'd have to show them a copy of your receipt to show they were 8.99? and they still take the $5 off for DVD trade in?
