Another thought: wasn't Nolan's original cut of this like, 4 hours? He then whittled it down to 2hrs 44 mins from there. I assume that most stories are pretty complete when you have the entirety of the tale, but that you inevitably lose some parts once you cut over 25% of the story out. Now I'm not saying that he should have kept the 4 hour cut, and I'm certainly not denying that you still have to make good choices when you edit so that the story stays in tact.

What I am saying is that certain details like how
[Show spoiler]Bruce got back to Gotham, why Thalia is in court being tried, then taken by Bane, then back with Lucius talking to Bruce, then back with Bane again, and why Bruce is in the Bat at the truck, then out of the Bat watching Thalia give her slow agonizing death scene, then suddenly back in the Bat to take the bomb...
were better addressed in the longer cut, but were lost once the film was edited. I don't know.

It kind of feels like Lord of the Rings. The theatrical cuts, while good, are no where near as good as the extended cuts in terms of explaining certain things like the line about Faramir having a chance to show his quality, or how they all got Galadriel's gifts, and why Gandalf has is staff one minute, and the next he doesn't.

Another example is Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, where Harry Ron & Hermione get caught by Umbridge, and the next scene has the whole Dumbledore's Army in the office. That's another movie where the reported original cut was MUCH longer but was whittled down to make a certain goal running time. In the process, some plots points get chalked up to, "oh, and by the way, this happened off screen.... moving on"

I plan to watch it again with the subtitles option on.

Same thing I said when I left the theater. Watching the blu-ray I found that I was understanding Bane and Batman well enough to not need them.

I heard every piece of dialogue with ease when I watched it at home for the very first time, unlike when I went to the cinemas, where I couldn't make out quite a bit of dialogue particularly from Bane.

I think it comes with the territory. The more popular a certain thing is, the more it is scrutinized and picked apart for the flaws it has, apparent or not, big or small. This is why Christopher Nolan was considered a good director by most, after the success of TDK and Inception many people think he is overrated. It comes with the territory. People hate Kobe Bryant and Lebron James, they are very popular and thus greatly scrutinized, but no one can deny they are great players. This is what it all comes down to.

Thanks for the replies, people! Also: funny, Bane was the only one I never had any issues understanding. But, I think I've figured it out: I may have my rear speakers just a bit too close, which combined with the ridiculously high volume at which I watched the movie, sorta drowned everything out--I watched it once again at a lower volume, and was actually able to hear the characters speaking.

In the right hands, at the right time...

As always, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, dude. Some hate Target's DigiBook, dismissing it (incorrectly) as a mere comic book, while others will tell you (correctly) that there's little or nothing new in Best Buy's Reborn doc. So, I guess it comes down to which one you think will look best in your collection.

A blast from a canon? He has to be dead. In fact I thought the scene was incredibly unrealistic because those canons can destroy solid rock, so even with Bane's flack jacket on they should have ripped him to pieces, but Nolan seems to have an issue with showing any sort of gore so all you see is Bane fly backwards with his body still in tact, but he definitely had to be dead from that.

Batman even says to Selina that the canons have enough firepower to blow a giant hole in a stack of cars, so Bane really should have been blown to pieces.

It's not Nolan that has the issue. While WB gave Nolan complete freedom, he was still obligated to deliver a PG 13 film. Remember, WB still has toys to sell.

Aww come on. To try and nitpick realism in a superhero movie is silly. Especially with this movie which is probably the most realistic out of all the superhereo movie releases.

I thought Bane's death was fitting. Batman and Bane already did the fight off TWICE and at the end Batman came out on top like he should. It's not like Batman is gonna kill him so I prefer a motorcycle tank ending him then the leaving him to die like he already did with Ra.
