The scene and the track that bobbyh64 mentions is a perfect example. It's a great scene as is with moody atmosphere and it's wonderfully lit, but with that track...WOW! It just ramps up the tension and that classic theme feels like it belongs there.

I was puzzled why we didn't get an updated version of the classic Laurie's Theme. I liked the new theme just fine, but it's so brief that it's barely associated with Laurie throughout the rest of the movie.

Also, I'm not sure why they rushed through the opening credits to the point that the opening Halloween Theme was truncated. It's such an incredible opening and I would have milked it for all it's worth and slowed it down a bit. The soundtrack has the full version and it plays much better.

Of course, this is all just nit picking. No doubt Carpenter's going to knock it out of the park with the scores to Kills and Ends, I just hope his music is used much more strategically and judiciously throughout those films.
Couldn't have said it better myself!

^This!!!
I too remember when I first saw the film and being surprised how little score there was. And also how the opening credits were rushed. They should’ve let the audience have time to read all the credits and look at the pumpkin doing its thing. Felt very rushed, and the edits to the main theme definitely felt weird. They removed certain sections but also repeated a section that doesn’t even play out that way on the album.

I also think the track “The Shape Hunts Allyson” should’ve been at least twice as long. That was basically the hit single of the album and it’s just under a minute. And in the movie the Shape should’ve actually hunted Allyson. All we see is her running away a la Laurie in Halloween 1978 but we never see the Shape going after her. It would’ve been cool if she had to run through some woods or something and show Michel going after her with that iconic music playing.

The film needed more scenes that let the score have room to breathe since the music is such a major part of these movies.

So, I just watched the original and this movie over the weekend. The first is a classic even if a few scenes appear a little dated. I still love it.

This is the like my3rd viewing total of the 2018 film now and while I totally love the way its starts I still have big issues with how it plays out. Once Mikey gets loose the film just gets a little cheesey. Gone are the "non-kills" that Carpenter used so well in the original. In this one, pretty much everytime it seemed like someone as going to get it they did. Allysons friends/boyfriend were complete throw-away characters. Hard to care about any of them. I guess you could say that Lauries friends in the 1978 movie werent exactly deep and interesting but I felt like I spent more time with them. They mattered more, IMO.

[Show spoiler]The doctor twist was simply horrible. Just dumber than anything Ive seen in a long time. Ugh. WHY?

And, I know its a movie but Mikey got shot 6 !@#$% times point blank in the chest, fell off a balcony, got shot again by Lauire in the shoulder, had his fingers blasted off by a shotgun... did I miss anythng? NO medical attention. Wheres the blood transfusion coming from? Im just saying. Its very hard to swallow.

So, ehhh, not sure if I will keep this on my shelf or not. I blind bought(UHD) it going by the early rave reviews which of course is a mistake on my part. This movie started great and I felt it had a ton of potential. Every other Halloween sequel has been comically bad so I really want this to work for me. I just dont know if it does. It just goes all "horror silly" at about the 40-45 minute mark or somewhere in there.

There has to be some sort of announcement, trailer, teaser, poster...something attached to this "watch party". No way would they just be doing this for no reason. They must be trying to build up hype for Halloween Kills.

Watched it again and loved it! 4/5

Michael's mask on this film so far looks like the best, but I've yet to watch Rob Zombie's Halloween movies (by the covers, Michael's mask looks solid, too).

That said, Jamie Lee Curtis' character was pretty spectacular and yet, her daughter thought she was making it all up, till it got real.

I can't wait for the 2022 movie.

I think Michael got off rather lightly in this movie, up until the ending of course, in previous movies he seems to get shot a lot more.

Finally saw this on UHD. Great picture.

I'm not a massive fan of franchise. I've only seen Carpenter's original, Rob Zombie's reboot film, and this one.

I liked it a good bit except for Sartain. Halloween does some interesting stuff but Sartain just annoyed me that they thought that that was a good idea.

I don't mind Laurie going the way she went. Excessive? Sure. Some of it could have been tone down a bit. But overall, I really liked this film. I think for the most part this was a good way to go.

I can't wait to see the next one.

I never saw Halloween II, just cuz Carpenter didn't do it. Is it a good flick? Laurie Strode is a fascinating character to me. I just kind of never really cared to see where that story went after.

Personally, I thought it was a bit boring and definitly overrated.

Although I am one who loves Rob Zombie's II and Curse, so I may not be the best authority on that.....

It's kind of funny you can watch Halloween II (81') or you can watch Halloween 2018 after the Original 1978 one. Not sure if that has ever been done! This has the best Modern 5.1 and up DTS:X Surround Sound Mix of any of the Halloweens. 5 has the best Stereo (Ultra) Surround and The Original has the Best/Only Mono.

Anyway, this has soooo many throwback shots to the Original and Halloween II even. It also has a Third Act Intensity just like the Original. Role reversal situations. I think it's actually a lot of fun. Halloween Kills in 7 more days Going on Sunday I think...4/5 for this one because it is the closest in style to the first one.

I re-watched this last night with my girlfriend. She pointed out that the podcaster’s description of Judith’s death doesn’t match the flashback from the original movie. The podcaster says that Michael sliced the base of Judith’s skull and then she turned around and raised her hands in self-defense. That’s not what happened. She turned around before she even knew Michael was going to stab her and yelled his name out because she wasn’t wearing a shirt.

This was done intentionally by the podcaster to "spice things up".

Is this free on any of the pay cable channels or streaming services right now?

Didn’t care for it in theaters but figured I would give it another chance

I’m having trouble finding it on streaming services too. It’s playing on FX but I don’t want it edited and with commercials.

I'd love to see the footage of whomever picked Myers up for the arrest on Halloween night '78.

Did they just pop some handcuffs on him? How'd that play out?

I predict one of the upcoming sequels will show this.

I'm gonna watch this for the second time in the next couple days in anticipation of Halloween Kills. I still expect it to be fairly sub par, but my hope is that the new film is better and maybe revives my interest in this film a little bit. Although I'm not overly optimistic.

If Kills really delivers, i won't mind this one as much. A solid follow up can retroactively (slightly) improve a lacklustre previous entry.

Kind of.
