I'm now in a back and forth email convo with our friend Demon and have supplied him proof my copy has a total glitch that renders the "Last Victim" cut from 27:58 to 28:11 completely unplayable on multiple players of mine.

I might be more tech savy than him lol

So what comes after Dead Pit and Mirror, Mirror? Or will Dark Force remain largely a clearinghouse for old Code Red titles nobody wants?

I see them more like hot potatoes,
Bill tosses them to Dave so his hands don't get burnt.

More double features of movies with best up prints cause of "nostalgia". Why buy the new 4k scan of Gates of Hell coming from Scorpion when you can get the green line filled version with a trailer of Chaos after the movie ends.

Point Doom is coming up soon. He also just bought some kind of bulk lot of film licenses, but, to my knowledge, he hasn't announced the titles yet. I think he is going to be announcing them as they are prepped for release. But, for right now we have the release of Dead Pit, Point Doom, Mirror Mirror and the Gates double coming up over the next couple of months.

Money. Remember me? The person always talking about money? The answer is MONEY.

You know why I check the VS board constantly during the big sales every year? So I can remind myself, with all the little comments people leave about the death of their bank account, that I like my bank account and don't want it to die. It's actually quite an effective strategy.

So.... Money.... Cue the Billy Idol video.

I've forgotten - is the upcoming Gates of Hell supposed to be a "grindhouse" edition? If yes, I'll look forward to it. I didn't see a cleaned up version of the film until the first official DVD release. IIRC there was at least one, maybe 2, "unofficial" releases of the film on VHS that were beat to hell and back, which is how I remember the film. The theater showing back in the day was also very scratchy so a grindhouse edition is going to bring back memories and is most welcome. If I ever want to watch the "restored" version I can pop in my Arrow copy anytime.

I remember being so excited the day I first spotted that Gates of Hell VHS in a Suncoast around 1995. Before then, the only way to see the film was a Blockbuster Video rental. I made my dad join up just so I could rent that and Madman

Does anyone remember the "sequel" to Gates of Hell? It was called "Gates of Hell 2: Dead Awakening" and was in-name-only and Godawful. The synopsis declared the film was a "tribute" to Fulci and his film but was nothing of the sort. It was just some horrible movie about two detectives investigating killings in a small town. Most of their screen time was spent standing around kitchens sipping coffee lol. Obviously the distributors were just cashing in on Fulci and his death and just slapped the Gates of Hell name on a random movie. The artwork was cool, though

Billy Idol covered a song, often interpreted to be about a girl who is all about the money, and named Mony, when actually it is just about a girl named Mony. It is one of the most famous songs about money and, rather amusingly, not about money at all. They spelled it Mony, as in "Mony, Mony", the title of the song. It's not one video, as there are several versions with him and then covers and spoofs. Any video of that song would be appropriate as a reference when I get on, talking about money.

The song that's not about money, that you think is about money, but know isn't about money, is an appropriate reference when you talk about money...Goddamn you JasonMichael! Why do you get it going?

Note to Demon.
Some people care more about PSYCHO FROM TEXAS than the grind house GATES OF HELL.
Please do not mimic Code Red's incorrect framing as released on their DVD.
It was not properly centered.

Oh, okay. I always heard, and pronounced, that as "Moany", not "Money", so I didn't get the connection. When Tommy James wrote the song he took the name for the girl from a sign he could see from his apartment, which read MONY, for Mutual of New York.

I don't think it's about money. I think it was commonly played in films and shows when money was being discussed for about 15 years of my life. There's a whole post about this on the previous page....

An excerpt:
"It is one of the most famous songs about money and, rather amusingly, not about money at all."

Also, I'm not an it. I'm a human being, created by the same God who created you. (Doesn't that just seem impossible, given how poorly you and I get along?)

Oh, because he's a Brit. I always forget that accents can throw people off. The way he's pronouncing it is identical to how he pronounced the word Money. And, yes, the name did come from a bank. Not just a music legend. The girl in the song that is always in scenes about money but is about a girl, not money, was named after a huge bank, with a name pronounced "money". That's what makes it funny.

You are the first person I've every heard say that song was about money, or that people thought it was about money.

I'm apparently much older than you, as I knew the song first from Tommy James and the Shondells' original 1968 version, and James, an American, pronounces it "Moany". So it has never sounded like "Money" in either James' or Idol's versions for me.

That kind of sucks for you. So much missing celluloid.... Then again, I'm a little old, but, still, to miss out on so much film. I've seen thousands and it isn't anywhere near enough for me. I hope you catch some of those versions of the song on film, at some point in the future.

It sounded like money in both versions to me. But, then, I had heard the story about them naming her after a bank so it was in my head, plus they played it in so many shows over the years, gambling scenes, prostitutes counting money, over and over. I always heard it as a stylized "money".

Other than using Ad Hominem why would you assume I haven't seen movies just because I don't assume the song playing is supposed to be a literal translation of the scene it's playing in?

Everytime I hear kickstart my heart in a movie, I don't automatically assume the scene is about Nikki Sixx OD'ing.
