To me that speaks oodles about his pain and the devastating emtional impact when his wife killed their children, then killing his wife afterwards. The lobotomy was something that he'd rather have than to live with himself and his past.

yeah thats life but it doesnt make it right, i wanted to lay my hands on her for playing with his emotions like that. She was a complete definition of a: you know what lol.

Did I mention in here that I watched Gladiator again yesterday?

I seem to like that film a little more each time I watch it (even though I gave it a 5/5 the first time I saw it).

I may have to look into making a list of my favorite movies lower than #3 one of these days

If you rate imdb that high, that's cool. I think their ratings are a joke, and objectively in terms of film history, they are. For entertainment and popularity purposes, the ratings are very good.

I'm sure it'll prob do well with the technical categories (both sound categories, maybe effects). I'm telling you right now, it's not going to win picture or director. It'll get nominated for picture solely because it's a well-reviewed hyped film and because for some reason ppl think TDK got snubbed (it didn't). He may get a director nod, but that depends on the films that come out later this year. I kinda doubt he will.

This is my only purpose for watching movies. Thats why i rely on IMDB for blind buys. But for CC films i just on the thread.

About the oscars, yeah you're probably right but i dont see this movie going in the same direction as TDK, nor Avatar.
TDK was epic, but this is way more EPIC.

Ya know, I thought that too. But the quote he used prior to that

Ruffalo: No, we're too smart for that----this is the exact quote from the end of the book, which is indisputable regarding its ending (it wasn't meant to be "interpreted"). I've thought about the quote you mentioned since I finished the film and if your interpretation is correct, it'd explain why he walks towards the nurses/guards and puts up no resistance, because he's ready to be free (i.e. lobotomized). But, then how do you explain the quote I mentioned? Personally, I think Scorsese was trying to be too cute with the ending, trying to make it somewhat open-ended, but he failed. He made it straight forward, with some flaws, imo. If Dicaprio reverted back, then why does he walk almost knowingly to the guards to get lobotomized? If he's cured, why does the EXACT ENDING of the book happen (i.e. the quote and the shake of the head by Ruffalo)?

See what I mean? Trying to make the ending cute made it faulty.

That being said, the ending is not ambiguous. People that say it is are misusing the word. Last Year at Marienbad is ambiguous, this is not.

Yeah at the beginning but everyone knows you cant control love. Sh*t got real and she bailed. She's gonna do the same thing to her husband, she wasnt loyal at ALL.

Such an EPIC movie, LOVED and it will forever be in my top 10. I cant wait for the release of the new transfer. Paramount was high with the first one.

I'm not sure how high I would rate it, as I've said that I've never made a legitimate list past #3...which I've been considering changing.

I didn't buy the original either, the remastered one will be along soon it would seem.

If I had to give a ballpark estimate, I'd say I'd place Gladiator in my Top 20 somewhere.
