Not sure how the German release compares...
That explains why I see so many FR Monogatari 2nd season set here in Japan.

If you are comfortable with 2nd hand items, I suggest to take a look at old JP BD set. Both Bake/Nise are in top 10 best-selling anime series of all time, so it's very easy to find a good cheap set on JP market. It gets pricier from 2nd season though.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica: The Movie - Rebellion - DE BD vs JP/US/IT BD

Pick your poison:

DE BD: no low pass filtering, but with minor compression noise in complex scenes and not debanded.
JP/US/IT BD: debanded and less compression noise, but blurry in complex scenes because of low pass filtering.

I prefer the DE BD.

US BD footage and bitrate info provided by doud. The UK/FR BD is slightly worse, but in practice there's not much of a difference between the two. Actually, both have unremarkable encodes with artifacting.

The french (OOP) BD of Rebellion supposedly uses the same disc as the IT release ?
All the Anime France had proudly claimed they had made this boxset & discs for the IT and FR market at some point.

No, it doesn't. FR BD uses different encode, iirc with wrong brightness. The only thing it shares with IT BD is the packaging.

EDIT: https://slow.pics/c/XWkKXYqd (FR BD screenshot from Yuripa)
https://slow.pics/c/tlGI3Csr

First FR BD shot has almost no banding compared to DE BD, but in second shot banding is more noticeable in FR BD due to higher brightness. Interesting.

Second shot is starting to make me think that FR BD is re-encode of Aniplex BD.

Indeed. I almost picked up the singles of Bake and Nise when I went to Japan (specifically, I saw most of Bake at a Book Off), but I don’t have much space in my luggage, so I don’t think I’d have been able to get them all. Since it was such a financial success, they’re dirt cheap online, so I figured I’d get them that way later on. Still haven’t done it yet...

¥200-500 per single in some cases when I went to Book Off. On Yahoo Auctions (basically Japanese eBay) I think you can get the BD Box sets for around ¥5000 each normally, although I’ve seen them sell for much lower occasionally... before shipping, of which you’d need a proxy service to ship them outside Japan.

If you go for the most common option (single, first limited ver, no limited storage box), it should be around 70-80$ for bake + nise.

Recently I just bought disc box version of bake & nise + neko (kuro) for around 120$. Bad choice. It has nicer storage box, but lacks so many bonus compared to above option.

Damn that's crazy cheap! I've used proxies before so I got that part covered. I'll be keeping my eyes peeled in the mean time.

I can confirm regarding Kizu that the discs appear to be direct clones of the AoA discs, right down to the bilingual warning screens and the discs being Region Free.

I can't confirm anything regarding Koyomi, Owari Part 3 and Zoku Owari, as MVM's releases of them haven't been released yet.

My bad, All the Anime had written that they had directed the release for both countries, I was fooled.

While we talk about Anime Limited France:
Gundam 00 Part 1
• 17-18 Mbps. Colorbanding, gamma shift, and catastrophic compression in dark scenes.
• DTS-HDMA 24bits 48kHz
• 30GiB used per discs

Source and captures

This is another Kazé-tier one.

So, um.... How does the Discotek release of Cyber City Oedo 808 look? I would like to see some pics if anybody has them. I mean, if it is any meaningful improvement of the UK disc, that is.

Trying to find information on A Silent Voice BDs.

So the Limited HK edition is better than RE because it's BD50 rather than BD25?
Are there any similar discrepancies for US versions?

I also discovered a Taiwan version. Not sure the quality on that either.

The standard Shout Factory and Nozomi Collector’s Editions have different encodes, with the Nozomi being better.

Magic Knight Rayearth - Discotek Media BD vs Bandai 2005 R2J DVD

The Blu-ray is sourced from a decent but dated remaster with weak, anemic black levels. The 2005 R2J DVD is better in that regard, though the BD is overall superior. I found the BD picture to be a lot more satisfying after adjusting the gamma.

Violet Evergarden - UK Limited BD (re-authored) vs JP Limited BD

This UK release is delayed due to quality problem, but I'm quite satisfied with the final result.

The good:
- Main series is on 2 BD50 discs, 8/7 split (14 ep + 1 ep extra). Picture quality is nearly as good as JP BD, just has a bit less details and more microblock in dark scene, but barely noticeable. Debanding, gamma target, color tonality... is all good. I doubt I can notice the difference if I actually sit down and watch the movie.
- Main series audio uses DTS-HD 2.0 MA to save space, compared to LPCM 2.0 in JP BD.
- Subtitles is available in English and French, have good font with border and shadow, easy to read. Certainly one of the better font choices.
- The whole package with bonus (artbook, art cards, stamp books) feels very nice. Very high quality overall, though BD case cover is not my cup of tea.

The bad:
- Blu-ray menu has very obvious banding (lol). Its artistic quality also doesn't come close to JP BD.
- Doesn't include commentary audio tracks
- Region B only
- My first disc has an 1 cm scratch. What a let down
