I figure shipping the speakers back to Vanns will be another $100 so I guess I have to factor that in as well.
If you bought your VERITAS from vanns you could return them if it hasn't been too long.* I'm not sure if they would charge you a restocking fee.* You'll have to ask them about that.* Are the VERITAS you bought black or rosenut?

Is there something you don't like about how the 5.1's and your center sound now?* You didn't specify if you have the 5.2c or not.* If you're happy I would keep them and when money permits get the 6.2 or 6.3's.* There isn't a drastic difference between the VERITAS and RC's other than finish and a small tweak to the sound.*

If you are just to compare the 5.1's and 5.2c vs the rc70's I'd say the 70's would sound better.* I say that because they are towers and you really can't compare full range towers to bookshelves.* You could run the 70's and have a phantom center for HT.* You would eventually need to get the RCLCR.

If I were you I'd keep the setup since you like the looks and sound.* Getting the VERITAS towers down the line would complete your setup and would be fantastic.

Lastly it seems like it would be a hassle to do the return, then purchase the towers and be strapped for cash until you get your center (if the RCLCR is still available then).

Thanks for the advice. I have a the Rosenut color and think it looks terrific and "high-end" (The way speakers should look). I called Vanns and they said no restocking fee, but I would have to pay shipping back. Also, to answer your question, I do have the V5.2c. I'll have to think about this one.

IMO, I would keep the Veritas bookshelfs and upgrade to towers later when you can afford them.

Hi Guys,

I've posted this question over on AVS but i thought i'd post it here also to see what readers here think.

Curious what you all think.

My main setup consists of

Marantz SR5005 AVR
Veritas 6.3's mains
V5.2c center
V5.1 surrounds
Mirage OMD-5 rear surrounds

I have 4 RC 10's and a RCLCR in my lower level setup running off of a Yamaha RXV-667 AVR.

I'm debating between getting RC-70's for the lower level or getting a dedicated amp for my Veritas setup. I don't know much about amps...i've been reading up on them so far. Which one would you get?

I use my main setup mostly 90% of the time. The lower level is mainly there for show since i don't go down there that much. It's not a basement as the house is a split foyer.

I really like the sound of the 4 rc10's and RC-LCR. Since i don't use it exclusively i'm not sure if i need RC-70's down there. That said if i got them i definitely would use them more (if for no reason than to compare them to the 6.3's).

As the Veritas setup is my main system i use i thought a dedicated amp would improve on the quality that i'm already VERY happy with.

If you were me which would you lean towards. If you say get the amp i'd appreciate any insights you have on them and what brands / where to get them.

Id go for the amp. preferrably some Outlaw mini monos, they are $350 each, or $999 for 3, They are small, and stackable, and aren't deep, they have a shallow build, good power and the best part of Monos is that each amp has its own power supply, which reduces the noise floor and crosstalk.

If that is out of your budget, then you could look at the Emotiva XPA-3, which is like $600.

I've never seen those mini monos but they do look interesting. I like their form factor but do you think they really put out 200w? Ideally i'd like to power 5 speakers from an external amp.

I could get 5 of those for $1324.

For $1600 i can get the outlaw 5 channel amp

The Emo XPA5 is even less expensive at $769

I've also been eyeballing this NAD

As i said i don't know a heck of a whole lot about HT amps. The Outlaw amps are rated at lower THD than the emo xpa5. The NAD has lower power output. What do you think?

Yeah, I don't really go in the audio sections much, but I've been online here everyday in other parts. Happy Holidays Mike!

I believe you got a new receiver? I looked at your HT pics just recently too.

Yea, got a new receiver recently, a new HSU sub a couple of days ago and I'm waiting for another pair of RC-10's to arrive today. Looks like I'm all set until someone here convinces me that I need something else...

well... as I said their are advantages to Mono blocks. Yes, the XPA 5 is less expensive. I have a friend thats used it and said its noisy'er then he likes and is selling it or sending it back or something... He loves his XPA-1s tho. NAD makes a nice product, Im sure that amp will be great too. You have some good options.

WOW, guys, my system just came alive after the installation of the additional RC-10's as surrounds. I thought my little Infinity's were doing an admirable job, but this is a whole new level.
Not only are they tonally in balance with one another, but I also notice that the volume is a lot better balanced as well. Before I had to turn down my surrounds in the receiver because they were overwhelming the fronts so much I could barely hear my front L/R speakers. Now after running audyssey (in all 8 positions this time) everything is balanced to perfection.
Needless to say I'm extremely pleased with the outcome. I really wasn't expecting this much of an improvement frankly, but you guys told me so.

There are certain films that I feel have a nice surround experience and the Bourne films are a few of them, so I just finished watching The Bourne Ultimatum, and I got to tell you I was floored at what I was hearing. I guess it's due to the frequency range that the RC is capable of delivering, but I was hearing things in the surrounds that I had never heard before.

The wife is not into movies like I am. She'd rather watch her game shows on our 27" tube tv in the living room. I think she watched UP with us once, but she was kind of bored. I honestly don't think she hears and appreciates sound the way we do. My dad is the same way, but his hearing was damaged due to working around loud noises in the Oil Field, bleeding high pressure valves and stuff like that. He can't hear high frequencies at all poor guy.
