Wow, that's absolutely ridiculous. Are the ones and zeroes being specially imported on a clipper ship from England around the Cape or something?

Nancy Sinatra and the Sinatra family have nothing to do with the cost of the song, as (spoiler alert), they don't fooking own it, control it, or have anything to do with collecting royalties on it apart from the Sinatra cover of it, as it was a song long before Sinatra covered it, and it has been sung by others many times. The cost of using it likely went up after Sinatra had a comeback (of sorts) and his music started getting re-released again, as the song is more closely associated with his cover than anyone else's performance of it, so it's probably due to that and the fact that his cover is the one most commonly used.

I think futureblu was more likely talking about the fact that Nancy Sinatra is known to be a pretty huge EVA fan, in addition to being quite rich, of course. If any celebrity would be willing to generously foot the bill for those royalties, it'd be her.

Man idk, being an anime fan in Australia is rough; we always get stuff later, special editions are often not as special and things usually cost more.

I'm just glad I ordered the Ultimate Edition from the UK as soon as it went up, before they stopped taking orders from overseas (so I've heard). Even with international shipping, it's like $200 less than what the AU release costs.

My credit card has just been charged by Zavvi for the collector's edition. Stick it Madman.

Awesome, my credit card also got charged this morning for the Collector's Edition from Zavvi. I decided to import the UK CE when Zavvi had it on sale for £80, or $121 US including shipping. it normally takes about 8-10 days to get here once it ships, so it will still be awhile before I receive it. I do have the US Ultimate Edition ordered from GKids as well - I wonder if that one might also get shipped out early? With the impending holiday postal nightmare, that would be very convenient...

Is the classic English dub going to be in the standard UK edition? I see it's in the over expensive box-set. Just curious, would be nice to have.

Classic dub is only in the Collector's and higher sets. The standard doesn't include it-- US or UK versions, which are the same, I believe.

Just to double check for the UE vs CE versions (from All the Anime & Zavvi UK) - in case I missed anything - the on disc contents are identical right? (and both have the 90's dub) - the only difference is that the UE includes paperweight/lanyard/large art book (while the CE has the smaller artbook)

Is that correct?

That's a shame. So, I'll buy the not horrendously expensive version and not have the version I loved years ago lol. Is this new dub any good? Assuming it's the same Japanese audio, which is cool.

I remember it like it was yesterday where a few forum members stated that Evangelion would never get a US Blu-ray release for a variety of years. Hope seemed to rise/deflate at the same time when it came on Netflix. Now, we are finally at the point where it's out there. Pretty crazy it took so long, but it's here.

And yet nobody still seems satisfied. Between Fly Me to the Moon being replaced and the high cost of owning sets with the original ADV dub, its still just Whine City out there...

It's very good IMO, but fans of the old dub seem pretty consistently disappointed in it, so it may not be up your alley. The Japanese audio is the same barring the ED and corresponding tracks of background music.

I can keep an open mind. After all, if it's good, it's good. Is there any reason why it's not featured? Seems like an odd thing to leave out.

I'm pretty satisfied. Just watched a helpful video on how to get my stepsister unstuck from the washing machine. Can just listen to FMTTM for free on Youtube. Gosh the internet is great.

Short answer, rights issues. This thread has plenty of explanations and speculations as to why it had to be left out, but at the end of the day we've never gotten an explicit, definitive answer.

Yes we have. Money. It costs six digits for each instance of Fly Me To The Moon to be used. Considering its the end song of a 26 episode series it's pretty clear why it's not included.
