Ok, now this is very, very interesting if true. I don't ever know of DVDACTIVE putting up fake stuff, they've always been legit. I don't see Zach Snyder having enough pull to mandate a DTSMA track. Either way this makes for very interesting news.

It would be interesting to see if Warner has additional releases in DTSMA. This studio has never been DTS-friendly in any of it's incarnations. I am guessing if they do have a codec switch, it's due to bandwidth savings. DTSMA's big advantage is that the legacy codec is built-in so you don't have to have the bandwidth for an additional 640 or 448 track. It will be interesting to see if the Watchmen track is at the usual 16bit or upped to 24bit.

You mean space, not bandwidth. DTS MA takes up more bandwidth due to the higher bitrate (1.5mbps) core. TrueHD's legacy core is half that. Warner's TrueHD encodes tend to be in the 1-3MBPS range. Yes, Warner wastes space with a secondary DD even though TrueHD has the core built-in from the get go. Reportedly early BD players (may) have trouble picking up that DD track from the TrueHD codec. This only matters for people using the optical or coaxial digital outs. Warner likes to play things safe. Interestingly enough if Warner switched to DTS it will leave early BD players with just the core no matter if your HDMI equipped or not.. Not that this really matters with most studios already on DTS's side... All this means is that early Blu-ray owners will feel the need to upgraded even sooner.

Might as well argue that everything should be in 16:9 aspect ratio and shot in digital only.

It's up to the directors to create things as they see fit. If they want 5.1 audio, that's their choice. If they want stereo, that's fine too. Even mono is fine if that's what they want.

No one cares if your home theatre isn't getting used to its maximum just like no one cares if your screen has black bars. That's how it is meant to be presented and to complain about it is foolish.

I would love to see WB using DTS HD MA on all their upcoming releases. This would mean LOTR would be in DTS the way it should be.

Another great TrueHD track is The Incredible Hulk in the areas that Paramount owned the distribution for. Sounds as great as what you guys are saying in the US. Such a great mix.

Default Watchmen the first WB title to use DTSHD?

I was looking on dvdactive.com and they show a back cover shot of Zack Snyder's Watchmen and it has the DTS HD logo on it. To the bet of my knowledge WB has never used DTS HD or DTS in general, is Watchmen the first to do so?

WB has released rear cover-art before with incorrect specs. "The Perfect Storm" for example... which showed plain Dolby Digital, but when the title was released, the rear cover art stated that the audio was "Dolby Digital TrueHD" (not a typo). The release of Season Three of "The Venture Bros." states that it contains a "Dolby Digital: English 5.1" soundtrack, but according to a review here on Blu-ray.com, actually contains a Dolby TrueHD soundtrack.

I'm not saying that it's not legit, as I'm going to assume it is until a reviewer says otherwise... or revised cover-art is released, I'm just saying that the specs could be wrong without any wrong-doing on the part of DVDActive.com.

Rear cover-art for the upcoming re-release of "300" shows Dolby TrueHD, so if he mandated it on "Watchmen", apparently he didn't feel it was worth it to mandate one for the re-release of "300", or couldn't justify the added expense of re-encoding the audio for it.

HBO currently uses DTS-HD MA. Though handled by different people, New Line used DTS-HD MA as well until WB brought the encoding "in-house."

Correct, the early blu-ray titles came with dts-hdma as the lossless track.

Pan's Labyrinth
Hairspray
The Orphanage
Rush Hour 3

to name a few.

Could care less if they switch or not. I just want them to put lossless on all titles.

I do, however, think that if they are switching, they would probably be moving to including lossless on all titles finally. (I'm still really worried about all their TV releases this year not having it)

It will be interesting if this is true. Dolby TrueHD for Matrix and Dark Knight is pretty awesome but my personal favorite is DTS-HD MA.

Nope, warner loves down rezzing movies to 16bit. they have yet to release a movie in 24bit audio.

Spielberg did the samething with close encounters. thats why theres both a Dolby TrueHD track and a DTS-MA track. dont think zack has the same power as him though

LOTR having DTS would be up to peter jackson.
