Yup. Lets say that you are a brand new gamer and want to play it on a PS3 for the cheapest price. So you need to purchase a PS3 plus the Band Hero bundle because you do not have any instruments.

PS3 80GB - $400 / Wii $250 / XBox $200 (arcade)
Band Hero (bundle) - $200
=$600 / $450 / $400

Dead Space is EA I think. The previous evil empire. Activision has definitely taken over that title. You can put out crap and expect ps3 owners to buy it. We're too used to games like MGS4, Infamous, Little Big Planet, Killzone 2, Uncharted, etc etc etc.

Honestly, except for Call of Duty (which I know a lot of people like, though I personally don't) what the heck has Activision made recently that's worth a damn? All they do is keep milking Guitar Hero and Tony Hawk. And instead of making DLC for GH, they keep releasing new damn games. Guess what, Activision? I don't buy your games cause I'm sick of buying the same thing over and over. New, decent songs for download would be a lot better than buying a whole new game that doesn't support downloads or songs from previous games. Welcome to the HD generation, Activision, where you don't have to keep pumping out discs just to have a few new songs. Ugh. Rock Band's way is so much better (though Beatles is a bit of an exception). And uh, yeah, why not blow of 40% or more of your game sales? Good idea, schmuck. Seriously, Activision has been doing nothing but going downhill since they merged with Blizzard and got a buttload of cash. They got rid of most of the interesting games in their portfolio and became the old EA.

I personally think if Activision stop doing PS3 games, it'll be the death knell of support for the console, other than 1st party. This is exactly what happened to the Dreamcast. I'm hoping this is just a bit of corporate smack-talk and not a statement of intent.

Also worth pondering, several in Infinity Ward (IMO the only DevStudio under activision worth a damn) have made a lot of statements that seem to put them at odds with Activision's overall goals and objectives

While still a subsidiary of Activision, this could potentially become an interesting wrinkle in that relationship...

It's not like the initial team at Infinity Ward hasn't aleady broken off from a different company to form their own before....

Total speculation, I'm just very confused by a lot of Activision's actions and comments lately.

Oh wow, this would be huge if it happened. I'm not liking what I'm hearing here. This is the same exact stuff that started happening with Dreamcast as other have already mentioned. I got a Dreamcast on launch day and it was awesome, I loved it. The 2k football game on it blew me and my friends away with its graphics at the time and overall presentation. As soon as companies announced no support for it or no more support for it that system died fast. Now I'm not saying the PS3 is going to go away as I don't think it would becasue SONY has way more money and power than SEGA did. However, the system would definately suffer big time.

For those that think Call Of Duty series wouldn't be a big loss........yeah right. Those games are huge and sometimes system sellers. Would be a gigantic loss.

To whomever mentioned it, Dead Space is indeed made by EA.

Just quickly looked through my collection of Wii, PS3, and DS games - don't see any Activision titles at all. Last Activision purchases of mine looks to be for the Gamecube (2 Spider-man games and 2 X-men Legends games)

Is it Infinity Ward that has a lot of guys that used to work for EA making Medal of Honor games but left because they weren't happy with the direction EA was taking it? Would be funny if that happened again. Maybe they can break off, stay independent, and then release through EA Partners :P Wouldn't that be hilarious

The Dreamcast (at least to my memory) didn't seem to get as far into it's life cycle though. And it was also the follow up to the bomb that was the Sega Saturn. I think that had a lot to do with how it turned out. It certainly wasn't just losing EA that killed it.

And while I definitely made out like it wouldn't be a big loss, I know it would be big. I just don't think it would be a system killing loss. I think a lot of people who would have bought a console for COD, already bought one for COD or will with MW2 (which being this far along, would be unlikely not to come to PS3 regardless of what Activision does I think).

I guess I just see it more of a Paramount switching to Red, than a WB switching to Blu situation. It would suck, but wouldn't be the end of us.

I just hope this spurs some action up at Sony HQ. If it doesn't, I'm willing to bet my good pair of shoes Activision does nothing.

One and the same which is why I figured it should be worth pondering as speculation. I also know Infinity Ward (and most fans of the CoD series) are getting very sick of the rotating the games back and forth with Treyarch.

Would be great if we could see Activisions ploy and hypocritical comments come back to bite them.

Lol I did the samething went through my games and realized I have not purchased a activision game since PS2 days, and they all were used games.

scratch... hmm

Activision has some good IPs in its inventory but there locked away never to see light again....

They have a good mechwarrior like IP (Heavy Gear)
and FPS/RTS Hyprid IP

Both collect dust..

It seems the companys that are making money take risks.. they use to take risks, but now there in conservative mode, COD+ROCKBAND+TonyHAWK mode...

I think Sony was planning on a price cut anyway, and now Activision will try to take credit for it.

Let's be honest here, the world wide sales are nearly equal in multiplat games for Ps3 and X360. This attach rate crap argument I keep reading about is BS.

I find it funny that the CEO is claiming they will stop supporting Sony because they THINK the sales are going drop. Who in their right mind are going to give up half their sales? After all the *****ing and moaning developers do about costs to develop games and here this moron is talking about cutting half their sales?

Don't for one second think this is ever going to happen, I can't see stockholders thinking it was wise to cut their sales in half because Sony is rivialing them for the most overpriced hardware.

Obviously Activision wants to make more money. So they threaten Sony with wishes to make Sony drop the ps3 price which will sell more ps3's and in turn give them more money.

I think it's lame though, now Sony will look like chumps even though they've had a price drop planned for a while now.

I guess Sony should have announced at E3?

Well whatever.

All companies want to make money, it's nothing new (aside from the not for profit, obviously).

Like it has been mentionned, it's simply a scare tactic, and a matter of saving face.
Before E3, the Activision CEO declared that the PS3 had to lower its price. He was probably expecting a price drop duiring E3, after which he could have said "Sony listens to us "the most important company ever", and that is good.
Then nothing happened, and he got pissed.

This being said, I cannot imagine Activision dropping a market of 22+ million consoles to concentrate on 2 markets of 30 million and 60 million ones. Why lose up to 25% of your potential sales on a whim ?

Now, I have seen a whole lot of denial too in this thread. Let's also be realists:
since the 360 price drop, the market share of the 360 has indeed pulled away, although not in huge numbers, comparatively speaking. So yes, the PS3 is losing ground (for now).
Activision/ Blizzard is just as big as EA, and their franchises are some of the biggest in gaming:
- Call of Duty
- Guitar Hero
- Tony Hawk
- Doom
- Warcraft (PC)
- Starcraft (PC - for now)

to only mention a few

In the end it might start a war of words between Activision and Sony, and in the worst case trigger a knee jerk reaction from Sony who might not want to appear as if they were b*tch slapped by a game publisher and thus delay the price drop.

I hope it will have the opposite effect, but who knows?
