the all around GENERAL AUDIENCE (not the Horror Audience) reception to The Mist has got me shocked. It was way awesome and the acting was fantastic! (except for the annoying little kid, who also graced us with his terrible acting in Marley & Me and I'm sure others.) Def a true modern cult classic.

Oh man... You need to see the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre! A true horror masterpeice! Forget the DREADFUL re-makes. Tobe Hooper's original is the one that rocks.

I wrote a 20 page essay on the social commentary in Dawn. There's no denying that it was intentional. There are too many examples to be accidental.

You mean re-make. Not remakes, since The Beginning was actually just another sequel/prequel.

And the remake owned!
No questions about it, both stand on their own terms. Of course the original will always be a masterpiece, but denying the remake it's much deserved praise is denying a film that heavily impacted modern horror 2003 and forward.

Phantasm. One of the weirdest and most bizarre movies in horror genre.

If you can find them...

The Signal
Splinter
The Bird with the Crystal Plumage

Then of course there is among others...

The Descent
Devil's Rejects
Freddy vs Jason
Friday the 13th (the 1st one), 2 & 3 in 3D are fun as well
From Dusk til Dawn
both Halloween (original & Rob Zombie's retelling)
Hellraiser
House of 1000 corpses
Nightmare on Elm Street
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (the original)

...and many, many more I'm sure. I kinda wish they would put John Carpenter's Prince of Darkness, Fright Night, The Return of the Living Dead, Demons all on Blu...

...I cannot wait for An American Werewolf in London and The Exorcist...

Yeah, re-makes, sequels, prequels, re-inventings... Same crap, different wrapping.

No doubt that the re-make had a huge impact on new horror movies. But since I hate almost all new (Hollywood) horror movies this doesn't mean all that much to me.

Hollywood need to get their heads out of the re-make frensy and start making original horror movies again. They should take a look at the new wave of horror coming from France. Now THAT'S impact for you!!

What? The Village isn't a scary movie. In fact, it wasn't a good movie either.

I agree with you on the original. I was there when it first came out. It was lame then and it's lame now. Re-make is eons better in every sence of the word. With that said...I have the outmost respect for NOTLD. It did set the standard.
