In a follow-up to the footage description, here is the official press release from 20th Century Fox about "Avatar Day" for James Cameron's Avatar:
On August 21, the world will get its first look at director James Cameron’s motion picture epic AVATAR, when Twentieth Century Fox and Cameron debut the film’s trailer everywhere – while select cinemas and IMAX® theaters will screen extended footage prepared by the renowned filmmaker for this global “Avatar Day” event.
The worldwide trailer launch will be presented in all formats, including IMAX® 3-D, IMAX® 2-D, digital 3-D, digital 2-D, and 35mm 2-D. The trailer will also be available online.
The extended look at AVATAR will unspool only on August 21 – and only in 3-D – in select theaters and IMAX®. Details on locations and reserving tickets for this extraordinary and unprecedented experience will be announced soon.
In addition on the 21st, Ubisoft® will unveil the trailer for their videogame James Cameron’s Avatar: The Game, and Mattel will reveal the action figures for the film’s Avatar and alien Na’vi characters.
AVATAR takes us to a spectacular new world beyond our imagination, where a reluctant hero embarks on a journey of redemption, discovery and unexpected love, as he leads a heroic battle to save a civilization. The film was first conceived by Cameron 14 years ago, when the means to realize his vision did not yet exist. Now, after four years of actual production work, AVATAR delivers a fully immersive cinematic experience of a new kind, where the revolutionary technology invented to make the film, disappears into the emotion of the characters and the sweep of the story.
AVATAR opens in theaters everywhere December 18, 2009.

Brandon Routh and Sam Huntington dropped a little bit of Superman: Man of Steel info today at the SDCC during the Dead of Night Panel.
When asked the ground breaking question of if there were any new news on the project Huntington quickly shouted "No!" But thank god Routh likes us fans because he was a little more apt to let us in on what was in fact going on. The Superman Returns star said that there is new momentum on the project and that he and Sam are both interested on returning for a sequel, if it happens.

Warner Bros. Pictures has brought online the featurette for Where the Wild Things Are that was just shown at the San Diego Comic-Con. Opening in conventional and IMAX theaters on October 16, the Spike Jonze-directed adaptation Maurice Sendak's classic book stars Catherine Keener, Max Records, Mark Ruffalo, Lauren Ambrose, James Gandolfini, Catherine O'Hara and Forest Whitaker.
Warner Bros. just debuted the trailer for the upcoming re-imagining of A Nightmare on Elm Street, including a full look at Jackie Earle Haley in the Freddy Krueger makeup.
The trailer starts with Freddy (still alive) being chased down a dark street by the mob that winds up killing him. He's shouting that he's innocent, but the mob corners him and burns him alive. As the flames come around him, he tears off his jacket, revealing the iconic sweater.
We hear the "One, two, Freddy's coming for you" song being sung by children and flashes of kids all around a graveyard. One little girl has the claws slashed across her dress.
There's a girl in her room, reaching for something on a shelf and suddenly's Freddy's head is there, staring at her from behind. A number of kids are shown, obviously under the effect of Freddy's dream powers. One seems to be having a seizure on a rooftop and another is trying to burn herself with a car cigarette lighter.
There's a basement, filled with pipes and Freddy moving through the darkness, getting closer and closer to the camera between flashes of victims before the logo comes up.
A Nightmare on Elm Street is set to hit theaters April 30, 2010.
Robert Downey Jr. took the mic with rounds and rounds of standing applause moments ago in SDCC's Hall H.
Though a lot of the footage was already shown in the trailer, quite a few moments were expanded upon; We're treated to the basic mystery. A noble, Lord Blackwood (Mark Strong) has been executed and allegedly returned from the dead. Holmes and Watson -- who seem rather down on their luck at 221 Baker Street -- reopen the case to find out what really happened.
One of the all-new moments has Holmes fighting a large man in a boxing ring (glimpsed at briefly, in the trailer). We hear Holmel's voice as the scene moves in slow motion. He methodically tells himself what he has to do, move by move, to bring the man down, including facts about how long physical and mental recovery will take. When it ends, the scene jumps back and then plays out the same way in real-time, with super-fast fighting moves.
We see a bit more with Holmes and Rachel McAdams' character, Irene Adler. They've obviously known each other for a quite a while. She asks him why he doesn't trust her and he asks her if he should respond chronologically or alphabetically. She's the one who steals his clothes (as seen in the trailer) and leaves him locked to a hotel bed, leaving wearing his outfit.
There were also quite a few shots in and around a British shipping yard, including a chase along an unfinished/decayed bridge.
