But, I'll still watch the sixth entry, and the following entries, especially if they are in 3D, because I'm a massive fan. But, if they don't finish off the story once and for all, and properly, I will be massively disappointed.
Thankfully VI is a very different film from IV and V. While I love Saw, I have to admit that IV was basically a repeat of III with Rig in the place of Jeff and a replay of the ending of the first film (Hoffman in the place of John, Art in the place of Zep and Rig in the place of Adam) and V was basically a repeat of what we saw in II, albeit with even dumber characters and a film mostly padded out with flashbacks. Its a shame it took the new screenwriters this long to figure out how to make a good Saw movie because with IV and V they alienated a lot of the fans who were no longer interested by the time VI came around.

As far as VII goes, I don't anticipate it being the last. While I agree Lionsgate probably intends it to be the last right now, the impact of it being 3D on the box office will maybe make this the most profitable film of the franchise. We'll be given what will seem an definitive twist only to find Lionsgate trying to shoehorn in at least one more film. Or two to get it back to the originally intended IX quota.

Originally, it was planned that there was going to be a break after Saw III or Saw IV and they were going to wait either one or two years, that would have been the wise thing to do. I liked Saw IV but Saw V was horrible and the only that made it enjoyable was the ending because it came out of left field. But seeing that Saw VII is starting off badly, is not a good sign. Given that someone has been forced to this, he might not bring his "A" game and might give us a s***ty movie.

Kevin Greutert has posted an update on Saw VII on the House of Jigsaw message boards...

http://board.houseofjigsaw.com/showthread.php?t=39156

"Well, team, it's hard to believe, but I start rolling high res 3D video on this movie tomorrow morning. It's still an unreal fog to me (the experience, not the 3D video, although come to think of it... well, never mind that for now...), having one week to prep the most expensive SAW film of all. We've attempted a comprehensive rewrite on the script since I got here, but it's tough: the sets are built, the traps are built, the storyline is set, and any major changes mean throwing out existing stuff, and it's hard to find the time, money and will to do things a different way.

It has not been a picnic, but the crew is working hard, and I am as well. On those rare occasions when I can actually go to sleep, I see images like the World Trade Center collapsing in slow motion, plane crashes, drownings, other bad shit. It's unhealthy for me, but hopefully the creepy scariness of my life right now is somehow translating into a vibe that will be good for the movie, if they'll just give me a chance to put my stamp on it here and there. Very difficult indeed...

Thanks for hanging with me, everyone. And send some love to David Hackl, he could use it as much as me, if not more.."

Oh, S***! Carey Elwes is back!!!

EmpireOnline

Quote:
f you’ve been wondering just what happened to Cary Elwes’ Dr Lawrence Gordon as the Saw sequels toddled along without him, you’ll finally get your answer in the latest outing, Saw VII.

Lionsgate has announced (thanks to Latino Review for the spot) that Elwes has signed on to reprise Dr Gordon.

And what happens in the latest bloody horror? Let’s go to the synopsis! “As a deadly battle rages over Jigsaw’s brutal legacy, a group of Jigsaw survivors gathers to seek the support of self-help guru and fellow survivor Bobby Dagen, a man whose own dark secrets unleash a new wave of terror.”

Starring this time around are Tobin Bell (but of course!), Costas Mandylor, Betsy Russell, Sean Patrick Flanery, Gina Holden, Chad Donella, Laurence Anthony, Dean Armstrong and Naomi Snieckus.

And, after somewhat being controversially being dragged back to the franchise from the helm of US release date competitor Paranormal Activity 2, Kevin Greutert will be directing in 3D.

So the first three cinema rows beware: you will get wet.

Good to hear that he's finally confirmed as being back. And we'll finally get some final questions filled in.

Looking forward even more to Saw VII. Hopefully it'll make mad money and we'll get more.

No. It was always a plan to bring him back at some point.

The low box office only meant deciding to wrap up the series with VII rather than VIII.

Hell yeah, Gordons complete absence from the other films was dissapointing. After 6 more films hes finally coming back! This is the best movie news I have read in a long time.

I personally think they should've held off on announcing that Dr. Gordon would be back. They just gave away an inevitable spoiler

Well, I can't say I agree with that.

Tobin Bell is fantastic, and a serious draw to the franchise.

But I think the rich and multi-layered storyline and ingenius traps are also a draw.

No need to go out in theaters for this. I'm getting VII on BD, just like I did for V, and VI. They have been coming out in January so that's not a long wait.

I want to know if there's some sort of engineer behind all of these traps, I mean Hoffman surely couldn't have created that pendulum trap (Saw V) himself? Or the rack, (SAW III). Or the room that trapped the other agent in Saw V. Got to be some genius behind all of this.

Pendulum trap was all Hoffman, supposedly since he was playing imposter at the time. Anything else, there could possibly be someone, and that someone could be

The first reveal of the glass box in Saw IV is an indication that the crushing room was Jigsaw's design, since he'd been planning it for a while (even before the Reverse Bear Trap, which we saw him designing in a flashback during the first film). The Rack was not Hoffman's design either. If you remember he was modifying it and John had to explain to him how to modify it (John didn't realize that Hoffman was rigging it to be inescapable like Amanda's Chain Trap and Angel Trap).

In regards to the likelihood that Hoffman could build the pendulum trap, Saw 5 is loaded with such plot holes. I'm still trying to figure out how John was able to sneak out of Hoffman's apartment building with someone as big as Hoffman without anyone noticing. I could understand this when Hoffman was abducting Pamela Jenkins or even someone like Jeff, but someone the size of Hoffman is unlikely.

Assuming you have a 3D capable system by then you won't be missing out. Otherwise you'll either be watching a movie intended for 3D viewing in 2D or an inferior anaglyph presentation (via colored 3D glasses).
