Wow, that is some of the most backwards logic I have ever seen in my life.

You want to punish BB, go for it - but why punish the manufacturer that you seem to like? If you really want to punish BB, troll the store and point out to people looking at the Monitor Audio products where they can get it cheaper.

And if this whole thing is really just a status symbol thing - well I guess it's true some people have more money than sense.
I won't be "punishing" anyone, just moving to another brand. Much like Totem owners did when A&B Sound started selling Totem speakers next to Nuance and Mission owners when Futureshop started selling them next to Polk Audio.

There comes a certain "pride of ownership" associated with boutique brands that you pay a little extra for. I went out of my way to put something together that wasn't the cut and paste Onkyo/Klipsch setup. But lets be realistic here, I see no way in hell Monitor Audio would ever associate themselves with a company like Best Buy. Any rumors floating around are pretty well just that, with no confirmation or inside info the whole argument here is a moot point. But you are correct about one thing, it is my money in the end isn't it?

I have to say CasualKiller is right on all accounts on this I would send myself to Hell before I would buy from either BB or Future Shop(up here) for the products mentioned. I know exactly where your coming from. Maybe their great places to buy some nice high end BOSE system.

I used to live near a large Magnolia stand alone store. They were really top notch. They carry some really fine products and I would love to see more of their gear get into the Best Buy Magnolias. In addition to what Best Buy Magnolias already sell, the stand alone stores have carried McIntosh, Primare and Marantz electronics as well as Monitor Audio and Sonus Faber speakers for years. To be honest, I kinda like to go into the Best Buy Magnolia to listen and browse without being accosted by salespeople. Don't get me wrong, I love to go into high end stores and get the full treatment, but I can't see how having more choices in your market is a bad thing

Unique ownership can be a selling point for some. I like the fact that my Swans are a rarity on this site (and others) as well as being a very good speaker with a unique look. That influence on the person buying the product will vary, but it's there for sure. CasualKiller is just putting more weight behind his decision based on it's uniqueness. Nothing wrong with that, just different strokes for different folks!

A better product mix at any store is usually a good thing too. Unfortunately I don't live anywhere close to a Magnolia store to take advantage of this news.

this is a good option.
i wouldnt buy anything from best buy as online is cheaper, but to look and touch it is the best part of going to a brick & mortar store

I remember Good Guys carried Monitor Audio before they went out of business.

Wasn’t Good Guys a big box store just like Best Buy?

Good guys was higher end than Best Buy, but less high end than the standalone Magnolia stores.

Uh oh, the Flanner's near me carries Monitor Audio- better get rid of them quick! (By the way, it's where I bought my Def Tech fronts.)

http://www.flanners.com/products/Aud...-Speakers.aspx

It's actually where I listened to the MA's too- without them, I would never have had the chance. The only hifi shop I consider reasonable driving distance to only carries Jamo at this point. The others are pretty far away.

Just because a big box store carries a brand doesn't make it any less of a quality product. I mean...I can go to the local grocery store and buy a bottle Dom Perignon, but that doesn't mean it's in the same category as Asti Spumante or Cold Duck. Its just silly to dismiss a product for such a reason.

The sad truth is that mom and pop stores have been disappearing at a very fast pace over the years and the high end makers are running out of places to sell their products. Online sales are good, but for companies that have long had a brick and mortar presence there is a need to adapt to consumer trends.

I don't think Martin Logan has compromised their quality just sell their products in Best Buy and I highly doubt Monitor Audio will either. Now, if Monitor Audio starts making speakers that can only be purchased at Best Buy that's when I would start to worry.

I hardly consider 1 fancied up mom and pop shop to be on the same level as what we are talking about here.

With a company like MA whose claim to fame was Class B stereophile gear at competitive prices with the usual mass market fare, image and reputation is everything.

Well I finally understand, and you do get to do what you like with your money. But as you clearly just stated this all has to do with image. It is more important to you to have cool and boutique than the actual QUALITY SOUND of the speaker.
Bottom line...You are more interested in "looking" cool than "having" cool.
And thats your right.

I guess if everyone can get the same speaker as you quite easily from Magnolia, then you become average because we own the same speaker as you.

I just want my system to sound good.

Image is not everything IMO

Anyways.....

Onkyo lost a whole branch of business when Circuit City closed its doors. It'll bring in new customers for Onkyo and it'll give us online shoppers somewhere to go to check out the new line.

The retailers manufacturers choose to deal in their products reflects on the principles of the company. Best Buy, at least to me, represents the epitome of mass exploitation of consumer ignorance. Companies like Monitor Audio and Revel are very strict about the retailers they authorize to sell their products because they care not only about the quality of the products they make, but also about the quality of service and technical knowledge that accompany their products. It's not just about the quality of the speaker/sound, it's about the quality of the EXPERIENCE. It's the same reason I'm not impressed by Polk Audio. They make some damn fine speakers, but the fact that they are sold EVERYWHERE sends the message that as a company, they're more concerned with making a buck than delivering a quality experience. Has it kept them from producing a quality product? Absolutely not, but it's revealing of their principles.

That being said, Magnolia HT is not the same as BB. I will love my MA speakers just as much if Magnolia carries them. But my respect for the company will be diminished a little. Were I in the market to buy any time soon, and BB had Monitor Audio but not Revel? I would probably favor Revel. There's something to be said for owning something DIFFERENT than everybody else.

They carry limited lines of both of those companies. They are only available to get up to the Mozart Grand from VA. If you want any of the larger speakers, you have to go to a local shop.

But there is no good reason to purchase from Best Buy unless you live in Minnesota (since it's corporate headquarters is there).

The name of Magnolia was destroyed by Best Buy when it was acquired. Magnolia Audio/Video stores were great on the west coast of the U.S. when it was own by Len Tweten.

The Magnolia Home Theaters insides "Best Tries" have horrible listening rooms with their switching device to choose source, amplification, speakers, etc. The magnolia "pros" are a joke that know nothing about audio or video.

So it doesn't really matter if Best Try is going to carry any brand. People should be supporting their locally owned shops to stimulate their local economies and keep the money working in their local area.
