The fact that it is also coming with an extra (I believe 25 minutes, as they found the missing fottage) just makes it so much more a must buy for me.

It should be noted that the 'original' version that has been discovered is 25 minuted longer. I cannot find out if it is 25 minutes longer than the restored version from 2003 or from the cut version that most of us grew up with.
Been a year since that article. How long does it take to restore 25 minutes? They must be still debating where to insert it in the film.

Thread on this last year. https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=54352

They may have already done it, but are waiting for an opportune option ti release it (I'm guessing it will be shown at film festivals first).

Yes, in principle this will work well at 1080/60i and the display should be able to reconstruct 30p. However, this relies on the capability of the display or player to deinterlace perfectly to obtain original 30p. A less than perfect deinterlacer may introduce deinterlacing errors and may not be able to reconstruct the original 30p picture.

I just actually read an updated article on this. I don't have the link but it was saying the film had just been delievered for restoration about a month ago! So it took them most of a year just to get the discovered film from point A to point B. From the article though it did sound like it's getting a really great restoration treatment!

Interesting, though I can wait. I've loved the film as I currently can view it for years, another year or so I'm okay with. I hope this new restoration helps it become more known with the 'younger' crowd, its such a great film and I fell is a must see.

I have heard unsubstantiated rumors that Buster Keaton's The General (1927) may soon make its way to Blu-ray. It recently received a really thorough restoration, so this doesn't seem too far-fetched. Kino's "Ultimate Edition" DVD of the restoration was totally disappointing (a single layer disc!), so I hope the rumors are true.

Like some others have said, I'm not sure that it would be worth it for some silent films. I just got Kino's DVD of The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, and while it was certainly a better looking picture the the previous DVD release I saw (which was barely viewable) it wasn't exactly pristine. There's only so much you can do with some prints.
I am looking forward to Sunrise however.

There are also somewhat substantiated rumors that the Criterion Collection is acquiring the rights to the Charlie Chaplin estate. If so, Blu-ray versions of some of his silent features are certainly a possibility. I'm keeping my fingers crossed! As far as silents go, I'd love to have The Circus and City Lights on Blu. Modern Times and The Great Dictator would be welcomed as well.

A lossless mono track would be perfect IMO. The Chaplin Collection released by MK2 and Warner includes both flavors: Mono and 5.1.
I largely prefer the mono tracks, that's the way his movies were intended to be heard.
Don't get me wrong. When I say loseless, I don't also mean 5.1. I can deal with mono if it's at least loseless.

lossless mono track will be good. A stereo track may be able to simulate a live orchestra used with silent movies.

There are three Mary Pickford DVD releases that should be coming out next year. They are The Poor Little Rich Girl (1917), The Hoodlum (1919), and a new restoration of Sparrows (1926).

I've been told by the man behind the restorations and transfers that they have been mastered in 1080i. He is trying to persuade Milestone Film and Video to release the films on both DVD and Blu-ray. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
