I'll be picking up the mono set initially and then i'll work my way through buying the stereo releases individually. Going to need to spread the cost on this one.

I would get the stereo set first then the mono one since the stereo set has ALL the albums, the mono set does not and is more expensive to boot!

Im poor as dirt right now so Im "cheery picking" the cds since I cant afford the price tags on the box sets.

Plus with my b-day next month and christmas around the corner; Beatles make great gift ideas.

I'll be getting the mono box and the stereo discs from Rubber Soul on[since that's when the true stereo recordings began].

That's what I would do, except you don't need Rubber Soul as the mono box includes the stereo mix for that album. I just bought the mono box from the Beatles store, since both Amazon and B&N are sold out with only the ability to get notified if/when more sets show up.

EDIT: Just ordered the stereo remasters of Abbey Road, Let It Be and Yellow Submarine from Amazon to complete the collection.

If they come out on Blu-ray, I will definitely get them as well, but 2012 is a bit too long to wait.

The mono set is limited and if a person waits, they may end up having to pay a couple hundred extra.

If a person wants all albums, they could get mono set now and then individual releases of the exclusive stereo albums.

So as far as I can tell, in order to have every remastered original version (i.e. every remastered original mono track in mono and every remastered true stereo track in stereo), one would need The Beatles in Mono box set along with the individual stereo remasters of Yellow Submarine, Abbey Road, Let It Be AND Past Masters. Is this correct?

Partially correct. The Mono box also contains the original stereo mixes of Help! and Rubber Soul. The single CDs and the Stereo box employ George Martin's unused 1987 stereo mixes.

This is correct.

But remember: the mono and stereo mixes were, in many cases, very different from each other. Some tracks feature instruments, vocals, effects, etc. not present on the opposing version. Some tracks were sped up or slowed down on on one version, rendering them in a different key than on the opposing mix.

To have every version of every song (ignoring bootlegs, the Hollywood Bowl Concert, etc.) one would need to purchase the Mono box, along with either the Stereo box or all of the individual stereo CDs.

My parents were UK citizens, so I always listened to the originals, which is all I want for now.

I can always buy up the remaining nine stereo remasters (or get them as Christmas gifts), but even though the mono box is supposedly not limited anymore, I strongly feel it will sell out eventually and become scarce.

Sorry if this question has already been asked. Are these new stereo versions going to have better panning, IE vocals centered instead coming out of left or right channel only.

No. They are not being remixed -- they are being remastered. The instrument and vocal positioning in the stereo soundfield is not being altered from the original stereo releases.

I am thinking about getting the MONO version. I wonder how the soundstage will be? Will there be only 1 speaker functioning or will the instruments and vocals will be lopsided favoring 1 side?

Same data in both channels.

So if both channels are working; its technically stereo and not MONO, right? Oh well....I'll just give it a listen when I get it.

An audio expert can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the Red Book CD Standard doesn't allow for mono-channel tracks. Therefore all mono CDs are produced with the exact same bitstream in both channels of the stereo tracks.

The audio is, nonetheless, mono.

There are numerous reports of Wal*Marts across the US breaking street date and selling the single Stereo CDs early. Just out of curiosity, I stopped in at two stores near me over lunch. The first had none, but sure enough the second had a copy of the newly remastered Rubber Soul on the rack. I saw no other titles.

I was able to resist the urge for immediate gratification and leave it lying there, having both box sets on order from Barnes and Noble. But man was it tough!
