Why did Sony wait so long to announce the consoles? They announced it a week before the consoles were due to hit store shelves.

Got mine today...nice system if I can figure out how to get the dialogue to work with my Samsung soundbar I have connected to the TV.

Essentially, I get some background noise and score..but no dialogue whatsoever.

I'm seriously confused.

Did you do an auto setup for audio? What cables/connection are you using?

Yeah. Did the audio setup.

I have a Samsung 40inch 550 series with a Samsung Soundbar (Samsung - 2.1-Ch. Home Theater Soundbar Speaker System with Wireless Subwoofer - Gray
Model: HT-WS1G/XAA) hooked up to my television via optical. PS3 slim hooked up via HDMI to television.

Now, my 80gb had no problem with the soundbar.

The funny thing is, I get background noise and some background dialogue clear as day, along with the score. But, any dialogue from main actors in a scene...either faintly hear it or not ear it at all.

The strangest situation was with the Transformers blu ray. Got the explosion, background noise and such...even got dialogue from the robots in all the scenes I checked. But, dialogue from the human actors...none.

Even weirder, special features dialogue and sound on a few of the discs I've tried (Superman Returns SD special features) sound works beautifully.

To try to keep sales going on the older models. As soon as you announce a new model you can pretty much kiss any sales of the old ones to die. So, even if you know months ahead of time that they are going to be available, you don't gain much for announcing it then.

I thought the release was Sept 1 myself. A friend at work mentioned his shipped today from some online retailer, and I was like, "what!?" That was 5PM today. I called BB right away, and the chick said they had a few left and offered to hold one for me, which of course I said yes. So I lucked out, they had zero on the floor when I arrived, and mine was 1 of 2 on hold at customer service. It's all hooked up now. This is my 3rd PS3, but it looks like I'll be selling one of my PS3 Fattys real soon here.

In all honesty, this doesn't sound like a PS3 issue as much as a audio hardware issue, BUT, playing devil's advocate... the PS3 audio settings have an option to enhance speech and other center channel audio. Try toggling this. It might just be some strange audio anomaly.

Sylin,

After about two hours messing with the audio settings on the PS3, I got it to work finally.

I hadn't selected a specific audio preference. I basically had to select all the audio codecs for this to finally work. Not sure if it's completely right but all the sound is there now.

Got the last one at my local best buy today. Unfortunately my boss has called me into work so I don't have time to hook it up right now. I usually avoid best buy but for today I like them
