It has been stated that they want to do something "new" with the series that they feel that they've been doing the same thing for 5 movies and want to do something "fresh" for the series.
Hopefully it's good.
No matter what anyone says, I liked the 4th one. I think it's much better than the 3rd one was. More replay value also, I've watched it quite a few times on my system. It's not award-winning, but it's entertaining as hell and has outstanding audio quality.

I ordered the Canadian 1-3 Box today. I hesitated for a long time because part 3 has the wrong aspect ratio (1.78:1 instaed of 2.4:1), but hey, I get more to see since it's open matte.

Beware of part 4! The price-drop of the U.S.-BD happened because the 3-D version is no longer on it! I got the German disc.

im sorry, but i disagree to the fullest extent possible! haha

really, the 4th one went a bad route. completely cheesy, the worst actors yet in the series, and non-exciting deaths. of course, i still own it, but that's because im a FD enthusiast.

2 is the best in my eyes, but 1 is a close second. 1 is actually the most serious of the films. 3 tries to be funny, and it works. i felt like 4 didn't know whether to try to be funny or frightening. it wasn't either.

I feel that the escalator scene was awesome!!!
I think the first is the best, then the 2nd, then the 4th, then the 3rd. I think that the X-Ray vision of the kills was a really awesome idea at the end and in the opening credits.
From a critical standpoint, all of them are bad, except the first. Even the first is only decent, at best.
From a fan/entertainment stand point, they're all entertaining in their own right.
