A Belgian horror film called Left Bank, which is my second favourite horror film of the last decade after Let the Right One In. There are similarities to Let the Right One In in how it anchors the supernatural in social realism, but in terms of plot it's closer to something like Rosemary's Baby. A young woman moves in with her new boyfriend in a run down tower block where the previous tenant of the apartment disappeared under mysterious circumstances. She slowly discovers that something is not quite right with the building and some of its tenants and it all may have to do with some ancient cult. A bit of a slow burn, but also one of the best made and most atmospheric horror films in recent years.

Wirey Spindell is an excellent movie, extremely funny and warped, mixed with coming of age sex and drugs. A must see and highly recommended.

Eric Schaeffer writes, directs, produces, and stars in this wacky sex comedy. Nine days away from his wedding, Spindell (Schaeffer) realizes that, though his future bride Tabitha (Callie Thorne) is both gorgeous and understanding, he no longer finds her sexually attractive. In flashbacks, we learn about the sexually precocious Spindell, including a time as a toddler when he tries to have oral sex with an electrical outlet. Later in college, he has a long passionate affair with Samantha, who is just as neurotic and sexually kinked as he is. Wirey Spindell was screened at the 1999 Boston Film Festival. ~ Jonathan Crow, Rovi

The chumscrubber which needs a blu-ray release.

Amazing stacked cast and great completely warped story yet it flew completely under the radar.

This one, as in I don't think it really gets the attention it deserves, despite being critically acclaimed. I had to import the BD for this one from Canada, but there should be a U.S. release on BD, as well

Agreed. Control is a superb film - saw it a couple of years ago on DVD, and it remains one of my all-time favorite movies. Of course, I'm biased since New Order is one of my top five favorite bands of all time. Though I'm not as big of a Joy Division fan, I do like their music. And, you can't speak of NO without referring to JD since they're almost the same group (though their musical sound is quite different, IMHO).

I like the fact that the film is in b&w, since that gives it the appropriate retro feel...And, I obviously love the soundtrack....

Miracle Mile is an odd one for me. Great score by Tangerine Dream. Movie is kind of a bummer but breaks the mold of the typical happy Hollywood ending. Something appealing about that.

Agreed, excellent film.

I will add Excision to the list. Very moving horror with a black sense of humour running through it.

It's on DVD as an Amazon exclusive. Bad news is that it's a DVD-R and it's packaged with Carbon Copy, a dreadful film. It is widescreen, though, thankfully.

A recent movie I enjoyed that hardly anyone I talks to knows about is Touchback. I love movies with an element of time travel.

To Live & Die in L.A. (1985) is an underrated masterpiece. I missed it when it came out in the '80's & didn't see it until the DVD. The Blu that came out a while back is one of my favorite's in this format...Excellent story, incredible car chase scene, and the panorama scenes of L.A. at dusk are truly sublime. The synth soundtrack by Wang Chung is also amazing. Though all of the acting is great, special Kudos to Willem Defoe & John Turturro....

Re: Ice Pirates, agree this is a hilarious film - as a kid, I saw this in the theater back in '84.

Another film few know about is Blair Witch Project 2: Book of Shadows (2000); excellent & IMHO quite creepy flick that got lost in the shuffle for some reason....I actually liked this better than the original film - it's more along the lines of a mainstream horror movie, and even if you didn't like the original you should check this out...

I have the soundtrack on both CD and vinyl.Small piece of zeitgeist there from Wang Chung.Could say that about the movie too.

Most of the films you lot have mentioned aren't exactly obscure, just under appreciated and underrated. Most film buffs have heard Control

Films that I really like that you'll be lucky to find anyone in the world has seen are:

Treacle Jr

The Low Down

Florida Straits

Buck & Spec

Divine Intervention

Burning An Illusion

My Life Without Me
