Do you feel your settings are set to 'torch mode'? If not, you may have just gotten a bad set, which is too bad.

ive set it to the thx mode from the start
but i have almost a non existant menu compared to the us model it is very basic.
all those things kind of made me regret my purchase a little.
with batman this summer i had to use break in slides 3 weeks in a row to remove the ir and i only played that game for 5 hours on that tv

The break in method does not prevent IR.. It's used more to help speed up the hrs on the TV so people can get their set calibrated faster.

That really sucks- I've played both those games for about 4-5 hours at a stretch and the worst I saw was some IR during an all-black screen when I turned off the console. It went right away after that. I have my settings up in the plasma section which I've calibrated with Spears & Munsil- you may want to compare against that just to see, but if you're using THX you should be fine.

Run the white wash bar?

Ugh! It should be under Menu > Setup > Anti-Image Retention if it's similar to mine at all. If not... dunno. Good luck. Why in the hell would they cripple the menus in the UK?!

Hrm, try the manual as I'd be really surprised there wasn't that feature SOMEWHERE. Otherwie, try Panny's concierge service- it's supposed to be very good.

+1 You can keep saying this but it seems that it falls on deaf ears. Folks, you break-in your TV by watching it. If and only if you want a calibration soon after purchasing then you need to break it in. This urban legend of IR and burn-in should end. All the readers of this thread should read:
http://www.electronichouse.com/artic...lasma_burn_in/

and you should focus on the paragraphs quoting the torture test that was run by the ISF and Pioneer...

I will, hopefully, receive my first plasma friday Its a Samsung PS50C530 and really looking forward to it! I've heard its better picture than LCD, which I now have...

I have heard different things about the break in period though.. Some say to turn down contrast, colours etc. while others say those don't matter but that you have to turn the "dynamic" setting off.. Can I play games like Battlefield Bad Company 2 as long as no HUD/map is displayed?

let me hear your opinions.. Thanks

I went through the break in process on my PN50C7000 a month or so ago and yea just put all the settings at about 50 or a little lower for the first 100 hours and then calibrate it. Very simple and very worth it in my opinion. I noticed IR very easily early on when i got the TV but now since I did the burn in process I never see it anymore!

Ok thanks.. So in short: not too much light, contrast, no black bars and no HUD when playing games, and then I should be good?

My Samsung plasma arrived at the beginning of this month; with regards to the break-in period, I have ~60 hours invested thus far. I'm pretty sure I can surpass the 125 hour mark by the end of next week, after which I'll initiate a calibration. I decided to err on the side of caution by following these break-in settings (for HDMI users; they're slightly different for component cables).

From ZippyBongHits at AVS:
Quote:
HDMI input settings:

Mode: Movie
Contrast: 64 (58 for dark room/low light settings)
Brightness: 36
Color: 48
Tint: G 54/46 R
Sharpness: 0
Color Temp: Warm2
DNR: OFF
DNIE: OFF
Dynamic contrast: OFF
Black level: OFF
Edge enhancement: OFF

HDMI black level: LOW (IRE 0)
Colorspace: WIDE (Rec. 709)
Gamma: 0
White balance:
R offset: 13
G offset: 15
B offset: 15
R gain: 13
G gain: 15
B gain: 15

Probably, but I've decided not to play any video games during the break-in period (it's a personal choice).

Thank you man! Appreciate it! Happy with your Sammy plasma so far? Excited to see my first plasma in action! So the settings posted above would match my Sammy in the break-in period?

The settings above were written for a 720p set, though I don't see why they can't be adopted for a 1080p display (which we both have). I think the settings are intended for general application, rather than being model-specific.

Love the set thus far: no buyer's remorse from me. LCD was never a consideration; plasma was the only option in my book. I didn't spend as much time researching brands and models as I would have liked to; once my SONY CRT HDTV gave out, I spent two days researching plasma options, and settled for the PN50C550 (due in large part to the $200 universal price drop). I would have considered a PN50C650 or higher, but the C550 was the only model stocked at the B&M retailer I went to. Still, no regrets. Even with the settings turned down, the image quality is still impressive. Everything's so fluid and natural (unlike the calibrated Samsung LED I saw at the same store). Trust me: you'll enjoy your plasma. I am.

Glad to hear that I can't wait! My main complaint about my LCD is the lack of proper black levels! My model is a little older (I think - we use different model numbers here) than yours but hopefully it will be up to par! I will definitely be gentle with it the first 100 hours

We just finished our 100 hours break in. Except for a short lapse of almost 3 hours when we just had to watch The Sound of Music on Blu-Ray (which completely blew us away), no problems at all. The aspect ratio 2.20:1 black bars image retention lasted a full 5 seconds with no residual problems. In the next week or so a full calibration will be completed. We are extremely happy with our Samsung 50 inch Plazma HDTV. Didn't take any chances with not being careful and respected the first 100 hours - just in case.
