What are all your impressions of trailers as a whole?

On one side, they can be used as a very useful tool in deciding whether or not you want to check out a movie or not. If done properly, a movie trailer can really generate buzz or hype for a movie and bring a lot of people to the theatre to see the movie being advertised.

However on the other side, the new trailers as of late tend to ruin the movies for me, so I have chosen to avoid movie trailers at all costs, aside from the first-run teasers, or movies I've never heard of before. I avoid them because they give away way too much, and leave nothing for surprise when you actually see the movies.
Horror movie trailers spoil the spooky parts ("oh, I seen this part in the trailer, some guy comes up from behind and grabs her mouth here...") or Comedy movie trailers show all the good jokes leaving mediocre ones for the actual movie. ("seeing that part in the trailer was funnier than in the actual movie...")
Sci-Fi and Fantasy movie trailers spoil all the special effects and some even show clips from the ending of the movie. (Well, I know he isn't really dead, there's a part I seen in the trailer that hasn't happened yet...)

So to avoid all or any disappointment, a few friends of mine, and myself, have decided not to watch trailers for movies we know we want to see anyway.

But don't get me wrong, I still love a good movie trailer. Especially when they're specially made like for Toy Story 3 (I haven't seen the 2nd trailer released, only the early one) because it showed nothing whatsoever of the movie. And of course, I'd be seeing that movie whether there was any trailer for it or not...

So what do you all think about trailers?

BTW OP, love the effort you're doing, you're posting some trailers for movies which I never even knew existed until I visited this thread! So thanks lol

I know what you mean, Trailers are there to sell a movie to you, rather like a advert in a magazine, but the diffrence is an advert in a magazine for a product can only tell you stuff about what it's selling to you, while a trailer has show you it's worth the price of admission, so many trailers, for example comedy, has to show the good gags, have you in stiches, and fool you into seeing the film while you seen the best bits, not all comedy movies do this mainly the good ones, that are jammed pack full of laughs that a trailer bearly scratched the surface, but poor ones have to show the great gags to get you to see them, and really poor films just fail at getting you to do anything but put you're fist in the air and wave in anger.

But some trailers that really work, for an example where the wild things are, peak your intrest yet tell you nothing, it shows you it's it own thing and makes you belive you are watching something never before seen, going back a couple of years to the cloverfield trailer, had everyones head tied in knots as to what was going on, or even what ever the heck it was, and it really worked, everyone excitment had peaked, maybe alittle to far and caused many teenagers to backlash in confusion as to the lack of answers, which slightly ties back into what I said early, but instead of having too much we had too little, and people fooled themselves into beliving what they imagined.

I wouldn't be able to stop watching trailers, I just couldn't stand walking into a theatre not knowing what a film is at all, for most films, trailers are just an insite into just what the film is about.

Most of the time I am posting trailers for films I haven't even heard of.

Thanks for the question and I'm glad you're liking the thread, even though you not looking at them, but thanks none the less.
