I was on the fence about getting a GO, but this news is just too unbearable to ignore.
No second analog stick, smaller screen, no backwards compatibility, bigger price point, not able to switch extra batteries on long trips.

I say No GO

Hey,

I've been thinking a bit about the PSP Go lately and now that I read through this thread.... looks kind of bleak.

Still... I bet it's very popular anyway.

I sort of hope it's the definition of failure. Everyone seems so convinced physical media will be replaced by downloads and I don't believe it or I don't want to.

Guess I'm old fashioned.

See for me, it's not so much about being able to download, it's the fact that I won't have to carry all those UMD's around anymore. Also, not having to switch the games out everytime I want to play a different game. I hated when I would go on a trip or something and have to carry all those UMD's.

Sony can't exchange UMD's for digital downloads; legal and technical reasons

PSPgo may be doomed from the start; some retailers won't stock it, games are expensive, console is expensive, no exchange option for existing PSP owners.

It's not looking good.
PSPGo = DOA

In my opinion, of course. I was already disappointed by Sony's price gouging but now that Sony is having legal and technical issues delivering a UMD transfer program for PSPGo buyers, there's really no incentive to go PSPGo over just PSP.

Some people don't have a PSP at all yet so it really makes no difference to them. So you're saying there's few people without a PSP already, interested in download-games, even with the strongest lineup of new full games PSP's ever had plus minis, video and comic content.

Just because it doesn't appeal to you, doesn't mean it's DoA. Same with the hardware changes listed in the first post of this thread.

Example: some may prefer the half-inch larger screen, I'd rather have the higher PPI crispness, minor PSP-3000 scanlines issue resolved and best contrast.

It's a bit of fail by Sony... that'd be like if the new slim PS3's couldnt play any pre-existing PS3 games that you had.

It is a positive that you don't have to carry around UMD's if you're traveling or something, but at the same time people who have a ton of games may be less liable to upgrade to the GO

I don't like the idea of digital downloads for everything but with some things it works really well. For something like the PSP or DS it's perfect if you can download a complete game which is identical to its hard copy counterpart without any loss of quality.

The downside is the second hand sell through which, i think, Sony could sort out (but they wont) through the PSN.

You could have a second hand store on the PSN which you upload your game to (or Sony would just make available on your behalf seeing as they're all stored there anyway) and basically the PSP would automatically delete your copy as soon as you "tick the box" for it to be sold. It then goes on the PSN for sale for whatever price you choose, and the funds go to your PSN account.

You'd never have anyone complain that it was scratched or in bad condition in fact you'd never have to get involved with the customer cause it would all be done through the PSN.

I think that I'll stop trying. Its almost like a political debate now and not about the facts.

Well I always thought it was overrated. To me at least the PSP GO is aimed at new owners. For those who have a PSP already, why do you need another? Ive pretty satisfied with my 2000 and have no desire to get a Go. The 2 significant additions to it is the smaller size and the digital gaming. I never had an issue with the Slim's size as its much better than the original. As for the 2nd part, well all PSPs already have the ability to download the games

I, for one, would buy a Go if the handful of games I play actually had UMD-less versions...but they don't. And at least for the Disgaea games NIS has said it's unlikely they will any time soon.

I agree with what you are saying. Supposedly on oct 1 they will have 250 games available including the minis. So, that sounds a little promising considering there are only around 80-90 now. I'll believe it when I see it though.

Does this help?

I also want to let you know that NIS America will release our past PSP titles, such as Prinny, Disgaea, Blade Dancer, and more, on PSN in the coming weeks. They will be available between $4.99 and $12.99 during the sales week (October 1st to 7th.) They are all 50% off, so don’t miss this chance to get them if you haven’t gotten these titles yet!
I'm still not thrilled with the Go, Sony appears more interested in competing with Gamestop than the DS with it. The good news is that it's forced SCEA to support the PSP better, so the mere presence of the Go in the market has actually made owning my old PSP 1000 a better experience.

For the life of me I can't find the article that talked about this, can you dig it up?

Yeah. Here you go.

http://psp.ign.com/articles/102/1028647p1.html

September 25, 2009 - The PSP has seen a number of revisions over the course of its existance, and the PSPgo is the latest evolution of the system that's hitting retail in less than two weeks. With the system's launch right around the corner, Sony sent us a small note that detailed a few pieces of juicy information that PSP fans might find interesting.

On October 1st in North America, 16,000 pieces of digital content will be available for the PSPgo. This includes 225 downloadable games (which is a combination of full PSP titles, PSN exclusives, UMD legacy titles and Minis), 2,300 movies and 13,300 television episodes. Key titles that will be available for download on day one include Gran Turismo, Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny and God of War: Chains of Olympus.

Also, PlayStation Network Game Cards (voucher codes that allow users to download full PSP games) will be available in stores to give players another method for purchasing content. Games that will be made availabe in this fashion include Gran Turismo, Daxter, Patapon 2, Secret Agent Clank and Twisted Metal: Head-on.

Well, the current total, including PS1 games, is 148. They're going to put up 77 titles next week?! Usually the store update goes up later if they're putting up more than four or five... good luck Sony.

This may sound funny, but I'm hoping they pad out the number games with a bunch of PS1 titles... Suikoden 2 would make for such a nice birthday present for my wife.

It wasn't mentioned firmly, but didn't they show GTA in this week's Pulse when they were talking about the Go? I'm assuming they know something we don't at the moment. (Pretty sure GoW:CoO and GTA will both be available digitally either 10/1 or soon after.)
