I smoked cigs for 12 years, 1 1/2-2 packs every day
Interesting - however we just had our Thanksgiving up here and I like Cold Turkey - so that's my method

Irritable and cranky are OK. JUST DONT SMOKE. No matter what.

You know it will be a rollercoaster for a few days, and thats OK. Drugs are leaving your body and you will ceretainly notice it.

You can make it.

Dont walk those 2 blocks... no matter what. Walk the other direction if you have to. Walk youself tired if you have too.

You can do it.

Keep coming here and tell us how you feel.

We are here for you.

Yeah the withdrawal from nicotine is bad. It's why I'm against the patch/gum/ecig. With those you still give your body nicotine.

Nicotine is as addictive as cocaine.

Again thank you to all for the great inspirational feedback
Ya know, for whatever reason I chew my nails. I hate the habit and am trying to quit. At times like you're describing, I tend to crab a bag of frozen vegatables and smoke myself in the nuts with them. I strongly suggest you try something like that.

Seriously...keep it goin!

if the craving really gets to you I would suggest injecting some black tar heroin to take the edge off. Just one syringe though...you don't want to become addicted

Good luck lucv13. I cut my smoking in half in May and plan to quit all together by the end of the year. I've been smoking for 15 years and hopefully this will be my last. I do think that telling people that your quitting might help motivate you, but I've also heard it's a good idea not to tell anyone until you have stoped for a considerable amount of time. So I don't know. I guess it's different for everyone. Well stick to it and good luck.

It's best to tell people and get everyone behind you. I told all my coworkers that I smoked with that I was serious about it and the times when I asked for smokes to bum they refused. It helped.

Plus everyone else will understand if you get a bit irritable.

I quit back in July. I used the commit lozenges for the first few days and i chewed on toothpicks to get rid of the oral fixation. Now I don't really have the need or desire to smoke.

The best thing to help is you have to believe you are stronger than your habit. You are the ruler of your world, how is something as small as a cigarette going to rule over you. Just realize that if you were to smoke again, you have only failed yourself and that you'd be a wuss for not being able to commit to quitting.

It's harsh but it works great. If I were to smoke now, I'd be seriously pissed at myself.

And don't think all you have to do is wait out the 3 days, it takes a month to a month and a half to get rid of the cravings.

True but at least the headaches and major withdrawal symptoms are over in the first week. Those were the hardest for me. That's why I always recommend cold turkey. Get the nicotine out of your system.

Yep, they'll hold you accountable too.

To OP: Keep it up man, if your irritable, get a punching bag / work out or do anything.....but dont sit there and think about smoking. Visualize yourself living a life without smoking and make it so.

That's a bit harsh, but I get your point.

I suggest munching on celery or carrot sticks. Use some dip or something.

If you are on edge, why not invest in a Nicoderm patch system? The initial cost is a bit steep, but over time, buying packs of cigarettes is much more expensive -- not just in dollar amounts, because the ultimate price to pay is the loss of your life.

That perpetuates the bodies addiction to nicotine though. The point of quitting smoking is to get off of nicotine all together.

COLD TURKEY - I like cold turkey did you not read that earlier - No but on a more serious note, it just doesn't make sense to add nicotine to try and quit - maybe it works since it's still on the market but to me it seems like saying well I should be able to have 1 cigarette every 4 hours and still consider that quitting. Nope don't work that way

On DAY 7 that's a whole week....
