The remake house in is Georgetown, just north or Austin (and Round Rock). The original house was east of Austin, almost in Manor.

Night shoots began tonight...believe it or not, rail traffic was backed up from Granger to Austin and beyond to accomodate the offloading of the fake rail cars on Saturday (your Texas tax dollars at work). The infusion of cash into the Granger economy must be like winning the lottery, for multiple residents. The Mayor of Granger (Jerry Lala) runs the local bar and restaraunt (called - amazingly - Jerry's). He's an incredibly nice man, he looks exactly like George Lucas (a fact I related to him, with resulting confusion), he's hung out with my family at our lake house in Burnet...I can't wait to pick his brain and get his inside stories on how this all went down in Granger.

I am in Colombia right now, my wife and I are visiting with her family, but as soon as I get back home (Austin, TX), I will definitely make my way up there to check it all out one day.

Quote:
It’s a good day to be a fan of aging men with a violent streak. Over the last week we’ve had behind the scenes video glimpses of both the Coen Brothers version of True Grit and Jason Eisener’s feature-length expansion of his fake grindhouse trailer Hobo With a Shotgun. Now we’ve got still images of Jeff Bridges and Rutger Hauer in their respective costumes for each film.

On Location Vacations has the first images we’ve seen of Bridges in costume as Rooster Cogburn, the hard-drinking, trigger-happy man hired by a young girl to avenge her murdered father. John Wayne played the original screen version of the character, which became one of his signature roles. (Winning an Oscar for it helped. If you’ve never seen it, watch Wayne’s speech, which is one of the great, moving acceptance speeches.) But his most well-remembered look for the character was quite a bit different than this.

We don’t see Cogburn with the eye patch here, but the tipster who sent in the images and video (below) notes that Bridges had evidently just arrived on set. So there may be an eye patch, though in the novel I believe the one-eyed Cogburn did not wear one.

Seeing the reserved costume wrapped around Bridges further underscores the fact that this is likely to be a very different film from the John Wayne one. Joel and Ethan Coen have said they’re staying much closer to the original novel, and then there’s the whole idea of scoring some of the film with Protestant hymns. As was the cast when we saw the costuming for young heroine Mattie Ross, this peek makes that idea seem quite right. And I don’t see this version of Cogburn blasting away on horseback like a charging knight. But you never know.

Another scan from a reader from the Fall preview issue of EW (not yet online) has given us out first look at the Coen Brothers' high anticipated "True Grit."

No, it's not really a remake of the John Wayne classic, instead it's new version that will apparently stick a bit more closely to the same source material of Charles Portis' novel.

Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, Josh Brolin, Barry Pepper and newcomer Hailee Steinfeld star in the film that follows a young girl (Steinfeld) who acquires the assistance of aging, drunken U.S. Marshal Rooster J. Cogburn (Bridges) and young Texas Ranger, La Boeuf (Damon) to track down her father's killer, Tom Chaney (Brolin), who has taken to a gang led by "Lucky" Ned Pepper (Pepper).

"I've never even seen the original," Matt Damon told EW. "The only reason I know I'm playing Glenn Campbell's old part is that people keep asking me if I'm going to be singing in the movie. But our movie is totally different. Joel & Ethan just stumbled upon the book and were like, 'Oh God, this is terrific. The dialogue is just fantastic!' "

It's a helluva cast, and with promise of the usual crackling dialogue from the Coens and tale of vengeance with in a western milieu we're pretty excited. The film will open on December 25th and we really couldn't ask for a better Christmas present.

Sounds like a potentially good film. The Coens have made a lot of very good films, so I look forward to this. Decent cast as well.

Outstanding trailer, I think this one will be up for a lot of awards early next year. True Grit is one of my most anticipated for fourth quarter 2010.

Easily the movie I'm looking forward to the most right now, and that trailer did nothing but build my excitement.

yea, kind of agree - it looks good, but hard to tell from the trailer (which is fine actually - too many movies show TOO much) - from the Coen Brothers, I'm good to just not see any more trailers & see this when it comes out.

I guess I posted the trailer in the wrong forum.

I was looking forward to it just based on the cast and Coen brothers.
Now I know it looks good based on the trailer. Looking forward to this one.
