i haven't heard when the nationwide release is supposed to be though. It's been so under the radar.

Fair enough. I enjoyed most of the movies from your list, but I don't think they're the best films of the decade. But, that doesn't matter.

I agree with the other films you listed, but I felt Burn After Reading was one of the Coen Brother's weakest outings. I was very disappointed in it. What did you like about it? Maybe I need to give it another shot.

I like the subtlety of the humor. The two CIA guys at the end, for example. Pitt's character was superbly annoying. Malkovich was just brilliant. Frances McDormand in one of her best roles. It's a bizarre series of events where nothing really happens, but I can't take my eyes off it. It's my kind of humor I guess?

It's nice to see someone remembered City of God. Fantastic film that too few people have seen.

These are my favorite movies of the ones that I think were the best of the best. I've only listed the ones I've seen. There are a lot I missed.

In no particular order:

The Prestige
Childeren of Men
25th Hour
Requiem for a Dream
City of God
Zodiac
Traffic
Y Tu Mama Tambien
The Fog of War
Kill Bill Vol. 1 and 2
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Brokeback Mountain
Capturing the Friedmans
The Departed
No Country for Old Men
Milk
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

The top spot goes to:

There Will Be Blood

Besides There Will Be Blood, I think all of these films carry equal weight. Well, maybe not Kill Bill, but those were the most fun.

5. Battle Royale
6. The Descent
7. Shaun of the Dead
8. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
9. The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou
10. Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance

It baffles me that people continually forget about Traffic when talking about the best films of this decade. That was a PHENOMENAL film.

Well said. Pitt and Clooney were great as always. Hilarious movie.

Hard to choose ten so I wont rank in order:

There Will Be Blood
The Departed
Almost Famous
Inglourious Basterds
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Lord of the Rings (All of them)
Dark Knight
Revenge of the Sith (Big SW fan)
Gangs of New York
Lost in Translation

Ahh, I am sure I am forgetting a bunch and mind will change tomorrow

I think you have a fantastic list. Love the inclusion of one of the top 5 best films of all time, and the best film of the 2000s: The Lives of Others. I also like the inclusion of the vastly underrated film The Assassination of Jesse James.
