Ya know...you did. However, we were both partially right.

When I saw the SXRD's (2nd gens) it was the a2000. The a2000's apparently had a firmware fix for a soft picture. This was why I was originally turned off by the set. I was then super stokked with the sharpeness and over-all PQ of the HLS DLP, but my Light Engine developed a greyish blob in the center of the screen that BBY & Samsung didn't seem eager to try and fix. BBY authorized a return, so I tryed the HLT. It was a beautiful TV, even better PQ than my HLS, but after setting up my moms hometheater which included the kds55a2020. I got pissed seeing perfect geometry and decided to go with the 50" a2020.

I think the DLP is a slightly shaprer picture with a little bit better blacks, but the Sony has a smoother picture (a picture most people would prefer) and has better SD scaling, light years better De-interlacing and spot on geometry! If samsung can figure out the Geometry on those DLP's they'll have a hit on their hands. The PQ is pretty flippin good, it is 120hz, accepts 1080p on every input and has 3 HDMI. But none of that could get me to look past the barreling, bowing etc.

Right now, the SXRD is the most well rounded set i've bought since my first 32" CRT XBR WEGA in 1999.

Thanks for being right Peter, those subliminal messages finally hit me and now I own a pimpin set

Just did a little A and B comparison with the 24hz output off and on, and it does make a difference in that scene. If I wasn't really looking for it, I may never have noticed, but I'm glad I know what it does now.

Those SXRD's are nice. Whenever I upgrade my set I'll probably be looking into one of their 70" SXRD's. The DLP has been very good to me so far, even though I do catch an occassional rainbow, but it's a minor grievance. I do wish Sony would make those big wing style speakers removable. I have no need for speakers on my TV, and I think the silver surrounding the screen would be distracting. But, like anything else, I guess you get used to it.

That grey blob . . . did it look almost like a small wet spot, or a spot where the light transmission isn't matching the rest? I think I may have the same thing. Very small and unnoticeable in most intances, but I know it's there.

exaclty, It was only noticeable on an all black screen. like on the ps3 dashboard at night. And it would change shape/size based on what bright items may be on the screen. Hardly noticeable...but i knew it was there.

My HLT did not have it.

BTW, I never knew the HLS6187 was 120hz set.

sounds like it is because your tv don't support 24p.

Question though . . . anybody fooled around with the wallpaper? It seems like it lets you crop the images to set a wallpaper, but whenever I select the range to display, it still goes back to a huge image when it displays the wallpaper.
I think I said that to you. I have an appointment next Monday with Samsung tech and will ask about it. If he doesn't know the answer I will ask him to find out for us. Their site clearly says that it doesn't. I'd like to get to the bottom of this too.

Edit: BTW, I noticed two posters mentioned a gray blob problem w/Samsung DLPs. That's exactly why the Samsung Service Tech is coming out. You can only see it when seated in front of the screen. I originally had a problem with one of the mirrors on the light engine. They replaced that part and now I have this problem. The field rep seemed to think the light engine he put in was faulty but still made me open a new ticket. Interesting eh? It is 6 inches from off center (down and to the right).

Your TV should be able to accept the signal, but it can not display any multiples of 24Hz. In other words, your TV should take the 24Hz signal and use 3:2 pulldown to display a 1080p/60Hz signal. You need a XBR4 or 5 to display a mulitple of 24Hz.

I believe the "Force 1080p24 output" feature is only when you're daisychaining to a receiver/upscaler that accepts 1080p30 but not 1080p24 and that your HDTV accepts 1080p24. If your HDTV do not, then it was never supposed to work anyway. Just like you can't force a 1080i HDTV to show 1080p.

Quick couple questions: 1) does the change to folder classification mean customizeable music playlists? (I'm thinking probably not, but have to ask)

2) Changing the CD output; I believe Sony's press release describes this as upscaling. So long as my receiver supports this feature, am I to expect any notable improvements in CD playback quality?

I think that in the audio world this is called "upsampling" or "oversampling".

I've read that your receiver has to support the format (duh ) and that you have be connected with hdmi or digi optical.

My gray blob is only visible when the screen is showing white or a very very bright, light color. Otherwise you can never see it. But mine is in exactly the same place yours is. It's been there since we got it, but since I see it so little, I didn't really worry about it. But when I have the money to upgrade to a larger Sony SXRD, I may have to use my 4 year service plan and my connections at Best Buy

Thanks, appreciate the response. Do you know any other devices that can do this? How well does it improve the audio performance?

Sorry, but I don't really know anymore than what I already stated.

Here's something not so good. I'm pretty sure 1.9 has partially fubared my high dollar Logitech diNova keyboard. Tried to log into this forum just now (and a couple of others) and even though I'm putting in the correct info, e.g. 'the big blue' I'm getting error messages and can't log into sites/forums. I had to turn on the controller to get logged in here. I'm typing with the kb now and don't notice anything weird but it's doing something weird to usernames/passwords.

ah, I see. I know that my display does not support 24hz, but I thought the 1.9 firmware update the PS3 recieved would have changed that somhow. Thinking that the "Force" portion of the description was a factor. I don't really understand why this set wasn't 24hz capable as it was suppose to pair up with the BDP-S1 initially and of course the sales rep had no clue at that time and I didn't really know to ask.

I sure hope that the PS3 gets 1080p48 output at some point in the near future.
