Also if for every 10 inches diagonally of screen (assuming a 1.78:1 screen), the optimum viewing distance n(as per THX guidlines) is 1 foot away, hence a 100" screen you want to be 10 foot away, a 1000" inch screen, 100 foot away. This guidline is the same for both cinema and at home. The same level of detail is required at home therfore if you want to have the same relative screen size given how far back you are.

Also resolution along doesn't make up image quality (or even sharpness), better contrast an the like is just as important (and can also have the image appear sharper), then of course the loss in detail from the projector lense etc comes into play. Both home and cinema can produce fantastic results, it's just the implementation.
I think his point is more relevant. It doesnt really matter if 35mm is slightly better than 1080p before its projected, it only matters what shows up on screen. How can you blow up an image the size of a postage stamp 40+ft and not lose resolution? Also who cares how compressed bluray is if the end result is perfect? Only true IMAX can match great bluray on a great home theater these days imo. IMAX wins via massive screen and outstanding PQ.
