NAGRA emailed me back with a Toronto retailer. It so happens they also carry LUXMAN, plus they are also the only NOTTINGHAM ANALOGUE dealer in town.

Now I most definitely will make a visit there soon!

Hi John,

My dealer lent me the Ayre and older model ARC model the PH3. I really like the arc and tube sound it brings, the warmth of the tubes just fits my system and my music tastes.

I am pretty much sold on the ARC. I am probably going to go with the Audio Research PH5. I am not sure if I can afford a new model or I might try to pick one up on Audiogon.

Sounds good. Just curious how far are you from Toronto?

Doesn't get much better than that John. I think you'll find the Nagra line a bit more pricey than the Luxman. Either way though, you'd surely be in for a dramatic improvement in your vinyl playback.

Hi Joe.

Most of the really good preamps that get listed on Agon ususally sell for around 45 to 50% off original MSRP. Just be sure to deal with a seller that has excellent feedback. BTW, maybe the dealer that lent you both the pre's would be willing to make you a deal on the one you liked best.

Without traffic I can get from my house to Downtown Toronto in about 30-35 minutes. I'm just west of Toronto in Oakville, ON.

I'm thinking the same thing as well, but since my mind is made up in that I really want to focus on the best front-end I can get, I may just go for it anyway. We'll see.

I'm also considering a seperate power supply for the NOTTINGHAM. They have a unit called the Wave Mechanic, which is compatible with all of their TT's and comes standard on the Space Deck models and up. From the reviews I've read they say it's an indispensible addition and will make a significant difference to the TT's performance.

My dilemma therefore is what to get first. LOL!

Hi Fred,

My dealer offered to sell me the ARC PH3 for $1,000. It is a demo unit. I don't think it is a competitive offer, I can find them on Audiogon for around $750 in better condition. Besides I want to try to pick up a ARC PH5.

I agree with your assessment completely! I could maybe stretch to $1000 for a mint PH3SE, but a PH3. By all accounts, the PH5 is even better than the PH3SE, so fingers crossed for ya!

John, I'd say nail down everything on the Nottingham first, then consentrate on the pre. Just my thinking though.

Sounds like you've got a firm handle on things Joe. Just keep checking in on Agon. Sooner or later what you're looking for will turn up.

The ARC PH5 has been discontinued with the new model (PH6?) due sometime over the summer. I think I am going to try to find a new PH5 for a good deal because the unit is discontinued.

See if you can get a list of ARC dealers and then email them to see if they have stock.....? Food for thought, no?

Did you do any more fiddling with the TT and phono stage?

John, Great minds thinks alike . I spent the last couple of days calling all of the dealers in the US and I found a dealer who has a brand new one in stock for a pretty good deal with full dealer warranty. I think I am about to pull trigger.
