I mean sure they could sell the rights to Lionsgate, and they could put it out, and that's what's going to happen.
BUT it won't be soon imo.

If I really believed I'd have PF in 6 months, I'd be doing cartwheels. I'm just not that optimistic.

But I'm still going to hold off on that and Amelie for a while longer, despite "adequate" imports existing of both films.

These are 2 of my top 10 BDs that I want and I'm really hoping to get a Region A release that's loaded, or at least has all their old special features ported over.

My understanding is that the best PF out there is barebones and that the best Amelie does have the extras, but they will not play in a SA US player.

AnimeOnBlu said that it would probably be on a BD25 with Extras on an R3 DVD. That's not inferior. Lot's of Hong Kong studios will put the film on BD and then throw the bonus material on a DVD.

Sure can. As some have noted already, it's recently been reported that Disney, having vaporized the Miramax label and shuttered the doors on the entire wing, is now shopping the Miramax catalog to any and all serious comers, to the tune of $300M or much, much more (up to $1.5B by some reports). From what I understand, it's an all-or-nothing affair (no single-title rights on the table), so whatever distributor might be interested will have to have serious cash on hand (this might put Lionsgate right out of the running).

I'd speculate that, perhaps, Paramount might be most interested given their current closeness with the Weinstein Company (e.g., the "Inglourious Basterds" coproduction, which exceeded expectations in the revenue column), but as both Paramount and WC are themselves on financially shaky ground, it would have to be a "hail mary" gamble to bolster revenues and a risk perhaps not worth taking in their eyes.

But the fact is this: there are a TON of great unreleased catalog titles under the Miramax banner, so essentially any "must-haves" you might have in mind could be indefinitely delayed until that catalog finds a new home. Yes, that sucks. Hard.

Paramount had nothing to do with Inglouirous Basterds. Universal, you mean.

Yes, I meant Universal...I don't know how I got those confused! (Too many coproductions of late, I guess). So strike at least the "Paramount financial stability" factor...maybe there's a tiny sliver of hope there?

If any studio could buy Miramax, the only company with that kinda dough is FOX since they made the amount that Disney wants with Avatar. I'm sure Universal or WB could. Not Paramount, they've been in the crapper from what I've read. Sure as hell not Lionsgate, Summit, or Anchor Bay. Sony? Maybe.

Even though you got Paramount and Universal mixed up, I think you still made a good point about Paramount even if you did it unintentionally. Paramount has co-financed (through their Paramount Vantage subsidiary) some high profile Oscar bait recently with Miramax: the likes of No Country For Old Men and There Will Be Blood come to mind.

I think you isolated the source of my mix-up! But I also think (now that I've been corrected!) that Paramount is probably a non-starter: yes, Transformers and Star Trek were great successes for them, but the rest of their release slate was in 2009, and looks to be in 2010, fairly lackluster; also, if I'm not mistaken, I thought the Vantage subsidiary was or was scheduled to be shuttered too. And good point about Universal's issues given the NBC collapse...but maybe that "hail mary" I attributed to Paramount could be an option for them at this point. Or maybe for Paramount. Or maybe neither. I'm not an industry insider; I just play one on the web (like everyone else here).

Regardless of who's in position to do it, I really can't imagine that catalog being homeless for too long...but any wait is far too long a wait.

Warner Brothers is probably in the best shape of all the studios. They just made $2 billion at the domestic box office in 2009. Fox is riding big success with Avatar but they've pretty much been a joke lately outside of that. Hopefully someone steps up to the plate. It'd be pretty cool if Tarantino just gets his own investor group together and flat-out buys Pulp himself. Then we would be sure to see it get the treatment it deserves.

Is this the Nordic version that you speak of? I don't see an English DTS-MA track. Is this considered the best region free release out there if you don't want to wait and don't mind double-dipping when the Region A finally does happen?

Thats the one.On mine it says DTS-HD MA 5.1 for audio.That's uncompressed isn't it?...Anyway,sounds great and looks great.But don't know if it's region-free.
