oh well. This is one of Alliance's better transfers...may not be a need to double dip.

i should probably pay more attention when i see "so and so is releasing new blus soon"

usually i assume the movies listed would be crap. there are big names titles listed in there, figured they would have their own little news post.

I just got the Alliance blu for $5 last week, plus I have the 2-Disc DVD Collector's Edition for extras. Finally Universal is doing some catalogue titles, wow.

The Alliance transfer is decent - 3.5/5 PQ IMO and 4/5 AQ. The PQ is quite soft/lacking detail throughout a good chunk of the film but this may easily be intentional, to convey the dream-like ambience. The bad things I noticed were inconsistencies, such as the famous overhead scene of them laying on the ice looking up at the constellations looks bad. DVD bad. Not the entire scene but for those few seconds that covers the front cover photo were bad. I really hope they fix that for the U.S. release. Also, the day v. night PQ was noticeably different: the contrast and black levels weren't impressive during the night scenes IMO (you'd see what looks like a layer of fog/mist over the dark colors on the screen - not very noticeable but enough to hurt the PQ), and the day scenes were noticeably improved when you'd see Clementine's bright orange hair set against her blue clothing - detail was "night and day" better (pun intended)

But seriously, I hope the transfer is fixed. It doesn't look horrible don't get me wrong, but only a tad above average IMO.

I wish we could know when these Univeral titles will be released, not just a price. But if there is any improvement in the US transfer vs the Canadian, then Im all in for it. Canadian looks pretty good though to me. We will see

The Digital Bits is reporting "...Universal has just officially set A Beautiful Mind and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind for Blu-ray release on 1/25/11."

I sold off my Alliance release right after I made it thru watching it. The color banding issues were really bad. I knew the disc had to be sold off.

I will gladly purchase the Universal / Focus release as long as Universal doesn't ruin the presentation.

By the sounds of it, the original Alliance release has a similar transfer to the US release, the only thing missing are the extras, correct?

I don't care too much about extras, but I do care if the picture/audio quality is significantly inferior on the original release. The first release is dirt cheap but the US release is $20.

Alliance also re-released the film though, as a BD + DVD combo with all the US extras & slipcover.

Thanks for the tip, I might wait for that release to go cheaper then, as I like having a DVD copy of films when I can to lend out to friends.
