I never had a problem with Netflix as long as I have been a member, probably going on about a year, I have gotten numerous releases when my friend could not get them on Blockbuster Online, I got Pelham 1,2,3 on release date among many others. It all hinges on your distribution center, my movies might say long wait or short wait but they come anyways to me, I use the Flushing distro center here in Queens NY...

I'll put it in caps and bold this time:
IT DOESN'T MATTER IF IT'S #1 IN YOUR Q, IT ONLY MATTERS IF IT'S THE ONLY THING IN YOUR Q, OTHERWISE THEY WILL SHIP WHATEVER IS MORE AVAILABLE ON YOUR LIST. I NEVER HAVE WAITED FOR EVEN ONE BLU-RAY FROM NETFLIX AND GET THEM ON OR THE DAY BEFORE THE RELEASE DATE. PUT ONE MOVIE THAT YOU WANT IN YOUR Q AND JUST WAIT A DAY OR SO. AND BAM YOU'LL HAVE YOUR RELEASE QUICKLY.
i got ballsy and tried this but it backfired.. oh well

I'm not a heavy renter on this plan, so I have no idea why I'd get passed over on this particular title.
I think it also has to do with where in the line you are. I have a 1-disc at a time plan, and I only get new releases on Tues (so 4 movies a month usually). I always get the new release I request on Tues because 1: That's all that is in my queue (new releases, usually 3-5 titles, but all unreleased), and 2: I list them MONTHS in advance. Right now I have 3 movies in my queue, one new release on Feb 2nd, 9th and 23rd. I also already have 2012 and Planet 51 in my queue now, even though Netflix doesn't have a release date listed for either. That puts me WAY ahead of anyone that queues up one of them even 2 weeks in advance. (And I just put Mr. Fox and Astro Boy in my queue... )

Now, if you take another movie out (not a new release, and again, assuming 1-disc plan) and ship it back on Sat, they will get it on Mon, but by the time they check it back in, they've already 'checked out' all the new releases, and you will miss it, and most likely it will become 'very long wait' for weeks or longer.

And, I don't know if Netflix notices this or not, but I never keep a movie more than 24 hours. It's in the mail box, watched that night, back out to them the next day. I haven't broken that pattern in over a year. (again, no idea if they notice things like that or not...)

I have been doing this religiously for the last 6-7 months, and have never failed to get a new release on Tues that I queued up at least a couple of weeks early. A friend of mine had a multi-disc plan with about 300 titles in his queue, and he can't get new releases ever until a month or so (at least) after they are released. I've looked at his 'very long wait' while I'm opening my red envelope...

Really???
I've been doing this for around a year without even ONE problem. I just got "This Is It" for my sister and "Surrogates" for me yesterday (release day) and that's how it is every week. Next week is "House of the Devil" hopefully it's good!

The wait is getting a bit ridiculous. If it weren't for the streaming, which I use alot, I would cancel and try blockbuster. The top 20 movies in my queue are red. The only way I can get a new release is to ship a movie back to them on the Saturday before the new release comes out. If I don't do that, I'm waiting a couple months for it.

I am with you. The wait for blus is not any better and I actually am trying about Blockbuster online again right now. I had 5 blus that were pretty new in my Netflix queue that were on long or short wait. I went over to blockbuster and signed up for a trial and they had 4/5 of the ones that Netflix didn't. I think the price increase to provide more blus was BS. If any different it takes longer now.
