I'm glad I don't have this upgrade-itis bug that many people have. I'll use my return to buy stock while the economy is still down!

I'm all for a flat sales tax 10% only for infinity and beyond. If Jesus gets 10% then the government should only get 10%. No more IRS, fight organized crime abolish the IRS!

I'm right behind you on that TV, although I don't know which size to go for yet (I wish they would announce the pricing). I won't be using my taxes to pay for it, though. My taxes are going towards my girl's car. That's first and foremost. Then I get a new TV. I got more back in taxes this year than I expected. I guess it's because I had 6 W-2's and a 1099G to claim.

Have they already announced the Onkyo receivers with the HDMI 1.4 spec?

I did my TurboTax again this year and e-filed. Wife and I are getting about 3,200.00 back which will use on bills. We usually pay the car insurance, our Tricare and a couple of other bills for the whole year and have some left for us. This year I'm just about to the point where my only bills are the house and utilities and the 2 cars.
Oh I also am putting some aside for Celebration V in August.

We messed up part of our taxes and will be getting a little more now.

Now the plan is:
New TV Stand - (ordered yesterday)
Elite VSX-01TXH
HTPC - (Acer AspireRevo)

After I sale my STR-DH700 I should have about $2-300 left for movies!

Default Interest-free loan?

How did it feel giving the government an interest-free loan?

Last year I lost my job, so I got a single paycheck for the 2 weeks I worked in the pay period, 2 week severance package, and 2 weeks of unused paid time off. This check was taxed as if I earned that amount every two weeks. I'm getting back a nice chunk (nowhere near the $11k mentioned earlier), but I would have preferred the cash to pay rent and buy food.

Alas, my refund is already spent resurrecting my home network.

Default Reading these posts is really frustrating me.

Let me know if this doesn't sound right.

I don't make a whole lot of money, between $40-$50k. I claim 1 dependant and this year I somehow owe about $900 even with the Schedule M.

I've never owed money before. In 2007 and 2008, I've got just about the same amount back, while only making a few thousand less than I did in 2009.

I was expecting maybe $300 or so back, and me owing this much blew my mind. I don't want to waste money by going to H&R Block only for them to tell me what I already know.

Is there anything that could be wrong with my calculations?

My refund was 6 dollars. I'm single and don't own my own house so my taxes are simple and I make sure not to overpay during the year. Most people I know badly overpay on their taxes each paycheck and think they are getting some government handout when they get a big tax return. What they fail to realize is that all they did is give the government an interest free loan by overpaying throughout the year.

What is your filing status? If Head of Household, the tax rates jump from 15% to 25% at $45,500.
