I can't pick a favorite, but three will pretty much ALWAYS stand out to me, and oddly enough, each movie has one:

1. The Darth Maul/Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan lightsaber duel in TPM Naboo hangar

2. Yoda versus Dooku at the end of AotC. I mean, really, it was the first time ever in the history of the saga we saw Yoda in action

3. The Jedi purge in RotS. Seeing Anakin lead the clone troopers into the Jedi Temple was pure badass.

I love the Darth Maul fight at the end of Phantom Menace. The reveal of the double sided saber with the operatic singing is awesome!

Also, I like the opening sequences of Revenge of the Sith, great action.

He might as well turn it into a cartoon.....oh wait a minute....he did.
First of all, prove to me that he said that!

Again, complete nonsense!
Did you even watch the movies, or you just read about them on the internet????

ILM used the oldest of the old and the newest of the new techniques to make the movies come alive.
Before you state sth. you should at least watch the special features of the DVDs!

This really is a crazy media thing, isn't it!?
All other movies can be full of CG and no cares, but the holy SW movies....
and I swear that if he had used miniatures and puppets, people would have complained too!

Hopeless!!!!

What are you talking about? The reason other movies aren't being mentioned in this thread is because it's a Star Wars thread.

My biggest beef with the prequels is that it's CGI over substance for the most part. There are a couple good scenes that showcase substance, but for a combined 6 hours, a couple of scenes just doesn't do it for me.

Ep 1: Pod racing sequence (The duel at the end dragged on and was constantly interrupted by the lame space dogfighting sequence AND the queen's group making their way to the throne room)

Ep 2: Yoda fight sequence

Ep 3: Big battle sequence at the start of the movie

The betrayal of the jedi, from the lines "...and, we shall have... peace" up until Yoda escapes with Chewbacca and Tarforr.

Really, the whole last hour of episode III is the best of all Star Wars to me.

My favorite of the prequilogy is the podracing scene... The first time I saw it, I thought it was awesome, in the theatre. Also, there is no dialogue during that scene either.

'Empire Strikes Back' in particular is all watercolor paintings and animations. The CGI of the prequels is pretty much just the same thing, but with computers instead of painted glass. The prequels just continue with the same look of 'Empire', which incidentally is most people's favorite Star Wars movie.

I understand the style vs. substance complaint; it's opinion, and pointless to debate. What I see happening a lot in these type of arguments, is a matter of language:
People who are not fans of the prequels say "it's all CGI and no story", and your real complaint is that it's short on story, (which is a perfectly valid complaint); but what it ends up sounding like, is that you're complaining about CGI, which would be stupid, and I don't think that's really what you mean. Naturally, people then justifiably get their hackles up defending CGI.

I think it's a good idea, if you're going to criticize something so cherished and popular, to be as clear as possible from the beginning, or you invite a crapstorm and these arguments go off on idiotic tangents...

... then again, maybe that's exactly what some people want.

You have some good points here.

However, I think the movies have an incredibly complex story, and is not at all self indulgent with the technology it uses, especially compared to most other highly acclaimed action fantasy flicks, like LOTR (what's complex about that??? No one ever wonders!!!, Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Spiderman. Take any movie, and tell me that they are more about the story than about action and visual effects, and SW!

I don't even like action films.

I watch the SW movies because they have great characters and a fantastic message, and as a huge bonus, outlandish visuals, the best movie scores, ....

I will probably never understand their problem with those awesome movies.

I myself have very few problems with the Star Wars prequels, they're some of my all-time favorite movies. I just try to uderstand why others don't like them.

Pesonally, I really don't care if a set is built with plywood and carpenters, or computers and programmers; both can look good or bad. Likewise, I don't care if animation is done with painted glass and stop-motion models, or if it's digital: it's a matter of quality, not type. We've all seen awful physical props, great digital props, and vice versa.

'Star Wars' bashing is a matter of opinion, (and usually, compulsive threadcrapping); CGI bashing is just silly.

Thanks.

I really don't get what the problem is... the visual (and audio) production quality in new 'Star Wars' is among some of the very best in film history. Who cares how they did it? If it looks good, it looks good. I think it looks much better than old 'Star Wars'.

The Phantom Menace:

When those hangar doors open and Darth Maul is blocking Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan's path!

Attack of The Clones:

When Yoda arrives on scene and battles Dookoo!

Revenge of The Sith:

When Vader and Obi-Wan finally square off! You can tell Obi-Wan is fighting like hell, and Vader is just all-rage!

Lucas' CGI-based worlds are some of the greatest ever captured for movies. The realism and the interactivity between the characters and enviroments have been staged better than anyone else; including the new master, Peter Jackson.
I can't wait to see these films on Blu-Ray, with planets like where the Clone Wars took place, the Lava Planet...

I love the part between the two of them before the fight. McGregor is the man.

My favorite scene in the entire Star Wars prequels is pretty much the beginning of Episode 3. I almost pissed my pants when I first saw it. besides Episode 3 is my favorite out of the prequels.

Star Wars 3 was probably the most emotional and had the most emotional fight out of all the movies. 6 is happy happy and finally Vader gets redemption.

3's just tragic that hope was put into Anakin as the chosen one and he became manipulated.

The only bad thing about the movies is freaken Lucas' awful writing. It's a great story, great idea and really fantastic visually but that the dialogue is brutal. That's why 2 fails as a movie. It's more about the "drama"

Do you mean like this?

Lol or how about Hayden's awful delivery during the fight between him and Obi Wan.

"The Jedi are evil"
"Anakin how could you possibly think that?"
"The Jedi want to take over the world"
"THEN YOU ARE LOST!"

Uh why not explain to him? Anakin sounds like a little kid right there. He goes and kills children, he's calling Jedi evil wtf.

And I love Mark Hamill's over the top "No" in the Empire Strikes Back.
