I saw it in the theatre..it wasn't that bad but I'm in no rush to buy a copy. Maybe when it drops in price I'll snag it up! Awesome scenes though!

I think that is a good way to describe the film, no paritcular scene is bad, but together nothing stands out (beside two of the performances) and the film as a whole was extremely uneven (and the direction somewhat poor) and left me extremely dissapointed. Because it is Peter Jackson I may give it another chance, but I really did not enjoy this film in cinemas.

Excellent question.

Best Buy isn't even listing the BD on their website

Looks like a job for Amazon.

I think it's just an error. It's in the add and everything and it was on there at one point. Somehow it probably just got labeled wrong.

I went ahead and preodered it with Amazon Prime Free Two Day shipping. Doesn't Amazon Prime sometimes deliver early if you use Amazon Prime two day shipping? Or do you have to use one day shipping?

If you haven't seen the film, but read the book already, all I can say is to not go in with pre-conceptions of how the film will play out. Think of it like Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining", where everyone went in thinking it would be an adaptation of the Stephen King novel, but it was very different and very much a Kubrick film.

It's a book adaptation, and stays true to the spirit and major elements of the book, but it takes a number of liberties in favor of helping the film work on a more cinematic level, since the book itself doesn't read like a very cinematic story. Just go in without any kind of expectations and you'll be fine.

A strong recommendation to rent it first IMHO as it may not offer more than just a one and done viewing. I liked it BUT........

I would have to disagree on the replay value. I found it to be a film that did nothing but benefit from multiple viewings and more contemplation. Hell, I've seen it three times now and I still don't really know how to describe how I feel about it, because it's such a unique and bizarre film, kind of like There Will Be Blood, which really took me aback the first time I saw it. But afterwards, each viewing only merited more and more value.

This was one of the worst movies of 2009 for me along with "Amelia."

Both movies got TONS of Oscar hype in the months leading up to their release. Then they came out, and got horrible reviews, and everyone just kind of pretended that they didn't exist.

I will be the bad guy here and warn those blind buying. I watched the film with the utmost respect for Peter Jackson and his crew. This film is beautiful but the subject matter is too serious to be played down as much as it was. I watched the entire movie only because Tucci is amazing, but I just completely lost all faith in it when
[Show spoiler]Susan Surandon's character attempts to clean the parents house comically only seconds after thei daughter is raped and murdered..... I was sitting there in shock, and I am not easily offended, American Psycho is one of my favorite films

So I just wanted to give a heads up to people who are buying the film without having seen it. I am in no way attempting to offend those who like the film, different strokes for different folks.
