They do to a certain extent. Sony sets the price they sell it at. Its unlikely any retailer will sell it for less. So Sony sets the rock bottom price and the top end price MSRP. Retailers can then do what they want.

They can't do that by law, without getting an OK from the buyer, so no, they can not adjust the price up. You would be givin the choice to pay extra or cancell, so if they are telling you Amazon just adjusted the price on their own, their full of crap.

They received e-mails from Amazon stating the price had gone up....people are probably just panicking and canceling.

For me, it doesn't matter.....I just placed a pre-order for the Trilogy with Buy.com.

I'll keep an eye on pricing......

Thats incorrect as far as I can see. Sony sets the MSRP and the retailers can discount as they wish.

Other retailers ARE selling it for less. And so was Amazon until last night.

I'm pissed about the Amazon price now that it's $89......oh well....thank goodness there are other places to buy cheaper.

Sales Rank is now at 54 on Amazon.....it was at 40........

The Spidey-3 is high, no denying that. But, the Trilogy is nominal. Paramount's Mission Impossible box set is the same SRP.

And discounted normally it works out to $23.33 a movie. How can people be upset with that?

Seriously . . . It's almost three months until this gets released. I think everybody's getting all worked up very prematurely.

I would say this is a good sign for sales.

Has anyone here on this forum got a email from Amazon about the price increase?
My account still shows the 69 dollar price. I see the price on Amazon has gone up, but can anyone here confirm that there is actually an email sent to pre-order customers and not just hear say?
I think it would be to early for them to send out an email, as they will probibly lower the price again in the next few weeks.

it looks like the Spiderman 3 blu-ray went up to 44.95 from 34.95 as well....

EDIT: I see someone else has already pointed this out, but it is still F'n outrageous to charge 45 for 1 blu-ray.

No email for me (so far) but I pre-ordered just yesterday. If I do get an email changing the price then Amazon and I will have some words. I also pre-ordered a lot of other titles at the same time, basically most of everything I want for September thru November. I guess I could threaten to cancel the entire thing if they don't leave my Spidey price alone. Not sure if that would do me any good, but worth a shot I guess.

Seriously though, I think that if they had originally announced the set at $89 then there would not be too many complaints about price on it. I was very surprised that it was only $69 when I ordered it, and still would have ordered it if the price had been what it is now. It will probably go back down anyway between now and release date. The MSRP is about the same as the Mission Impossible set, and I payed around $69 for that IIRC.

The minimum price legislature has yet to pass.

Now, there's an effective minimum price [ie, how much Sony charges their distributors for copies], but even then, if the retailer wants to lose money, they can.

But why is Buy.com still at the lower price? At least it was a few hours ago?

This whole thing just doesn't make any sense.

The Amazon sales rank continues to drop...it's now at 65.......they are definitely losing sales.
