It's nice that IGN has opinions, but seriously a few don't even have HD audio. That's a definite WTF-moment. It's their opinion - and sadly when you look at that opinion in an objective way it "sucks".

Still their choices though. Can't change that.

I do love IGN, but they spread themselves too thin. Their editorial staff really isn't equipped to cover everything that the site attempts to. I feel like it's generally still a great site to go to for video game news and reviews, and I love their gamut of podcasts, but for something like blu-rays you're always going to be better off with one of the more specialized film or home theater publications.

Are you talking about the movie or the disc quality? Because I would think that this list is a measure of the transfer, not the content.

The thread already exists and is growing quickly - my one post is negligible compared to the hoards of "I think this list is stupid because ____." If I made my own thread to disagree with this thread, then you'd have a point.

I would definitely agree with that!

I just think Wizard of Oz, Casablanca, It's a Wonderful Life, GWTW, 2001, CE3K, NBNW etc are films everyone 'must' own (in addition to Bladerunner etc)

The list is so-so and I agree about not having Iron Man listed. I think it should be there.

Some of the list I haven't seen, at least via BD. My criteria for a top 25 would be: Great transfer, but great film too.

My own collection is a little over 30 BDs. From the IGN list, I own 7 of the top 11. But I only have 1 of the BDs listed from 12 to 25.

So I'd say they got a lot of the top picks right, but the list overall gets screwy after the top 10. The top 25 *should* include:

Band of Brothers
Star Trek (Remastered series)
Children of Men
Gattaca
LA Confidential

All at least very good transfers...and all are GREAT pieces of cinema.

PQ is excellent the movie I found at best average even with two of my favorite actors in the cast.

If you were making a movie and you got a book called "how to make a decent superhero movie... for dummies" you'd have Iron Man, along with the Spider-Mans and most others, I'm sure Hulk in there too.

The Fall was at least unique and visually stunning to boot with all the exotic film locales. Iron Man wasn't a bad movie, it's just a generic popcorn flick. If that's your thing, more power to you, but I've seen enough of those.

Um, Wizard of Oz was #4.

I think Casino Royale should have been higher.

IGN's blu-ray section is absolutely laughable, a disgrace to journalism.

I dunno.

On the one hand, I see your first point: Iron Man is a (solid) action adventure flick. But that's also all it is; an entertaining genre film. Ditto the Matrix. These films don't transcend their genre, but exploit them well.

On the other, most of these types of flicks suck so hard I'm amazed when a good one comes along.

Taking that back to the list, I raise my eyebrow at Watchmen being on this list at all; it's a juvenile, obvious and too-literal adaptation of a brilliant book, lacking the soul and intelligence of its source. It's barely a decent film, let alone a great one.

Wow what a terrible list. Fringe, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and Firefly are all average quality blu-rays. And Speed Racer? Didn't that make the list for biggest disappointment? They choose that over Ratatouille, Sin City, Max Payne, or even Casablanca?

"Behold our 'must own' titles for any serious home theater enthusiast."

Far from a credible definitive list imo but hey, to each his own.

Yeah, but this was a very mainstream list and many average people would have no idea what most of those movies even are.

That list was straight up crazy. Some of the blus on there were good choices, just there placement was crazy. TDK should have been top 3 at least. Star Trek is awesome but not number 1, maybe 2 or 3.

There were some I agreedw with and others I didn't. I honestly can't believe they included the Spider-Man trilogy, but not the X-Men trilogy.

Sure the Spidey movies looked and sounded great, but there were no extras; save for Spidey 3. The X-Men trilogy looked great and sounds even better than the Spidey films, and you get a ton of extras for each film.

I've really lost any real interest in IGN's reviews. Only reason I visit the site now is to see if there's any movie news.
