Avatar was never winning this year, it was lucky to even get a nomination because if there were not 10 it likely would not have, it was nominated in a clear ploy to get viewers, it never had a shot to win, that is not what the Academy is about.
Dog we dont need to remember anything. Someone made a thread asking which films we think are undeserving. We can give our opinion of which films we think arent deserving right? I think we understand how the choices are made but that doesnt mean we have to agree with it. No biggie. Remember its a forum for movie discussion. Im sure there are some films u felt shouldnt have won right? Got Em!!

I think for every movie that people think should NOT have won, they should tell us the movie from that year that should have won.
Crash is a very divisive movie. You either love it or hate it. A lot of people have problems with how convenient some of the situations are in the film like the officer saving the girl he molests or the cops brother being the fugitive that gets shot.

Then again I dont get to pick. So it really does not matter.
So what IYO should have won the best picture in 72 & 74 if not the Godfather films. I could definitely see that Taxi Driver should have taken it in 76, but Rocky is a great film & something that America need very much at that time period.

But that is the whole point of the movie. There are coincidences like this every day. Everything IS connected, perhaps if more people understood this, the world would be a better place. Rant over

Some people can accept that and others can't. Those that can't hate the movie. Those that can love it

What should have won that year?

Brokeback Mountain
Capote
Good Night, and Good Luck
Munich

I think they got it right although I would have been just as happy with Brokeback.

All Best Picture winners are unworthy because someone somewhere thinks that other movies should have one.

All the movies that did not win are also unworhty because someone somewhere disagre that they should have been Best Picture wins.

In short in one way or another, all movies are unworthy of a Best Picture win.

Whether I liked them or not, I think the ones that were somewhat controversial or surprising:

-The Hurt Locker
-Crash
-Shakespeare in Love
-Terms of Endearment
-Ordinary People
-Rocky
-Annie Hall

There are others that some would say weren't the best movie of that year (was Dances With Wolves better than Goodfellas? Was Titanic better than LA Confidential?, Was Forrest Gump better than Shawshank?), but I don't think the winners in these cases are shocking.

oh, i see your point.

no, i didn't mean to suggest that. i was just responding to mikejet's specific point that crash is hated by many and loved by many, and that the rental stats tend to show it may not be hated by a lot. i wasn't trying to imply that "whatever is rented a lot is a good best picture"

Is this another, "Avatar should have won an Oscar for best movie ever", thread in disguise?
