I remember a couple years ago all the panic from Sony fanboys over the loss of 3rd party exclusives. Now we see the wisdom of Sony's decision to focus on 1st party development.

It also states next consoles only being downloadable possibly. I will quit gaming if that happens due to the fact that you buy the game for $60 or $70 and have nothing to show for it. When I get tired of a game now I take it and sell or trade it. With downloadable games you can just delete them off your hard drive. I think its stealing someones hard earned cash when you look at it that way and I think more gamers should stand up against it if they decide to try and go that route.

The best thing about that article is the crown they put on the PS3.

I don't know if anyone here ventures into the Movies forum, but Czar recently ran a "greatest movie of all time" tournament, and I helped him out by making some simple brackets for it in PhotoShop.

I "crowned" the winning movie with that same exact crown. It's nice to see someone else used one of the top image results on Google, as their crown.

Here's a small version of the bracket: http://i.imgur.com/KgmP0.jpg

Tell that to all the PC gamers that purchase games on Steam.

I hardly think they feel that way about any of the hard earned cash they spend. In fact they spend less on games than console owners do.

The second hand market for games is something that video game companies HATE. There will be a day when the ending of a game is unlocked via DLC that you get with a code included when you buy a game new.

As for longevity, count me on the side that doesn't really see that as a selling point.

I don't care if a system lasts long, if it's a sub-par console for the last half (or more) of its life.

With how quickly technology advances year after year, I don't know if I want to be playing the same console 10 years later.

But who knows, maybe games will reach a point where graphically they're "good enough", and then a console can last for 10 years, as developers expand on other aspects of a game, without just making them look shinier. But I doubt it. Whether people want to believe it or not, graphics play a huge role in games (look at all the crap that comes up when a PS3 game doesn't look as good as an Xbox game, or if the framerate isn't a smooth 60fps).

The people who don't care about graphics are the people playing games on Pogo or on their iPhone. I think people that spend $300 (or in my case, $600) on a console want the games to look as good as possible.

This obviously creates a problem though, because games take such a long time to make. How long was Heavy Rain in development? 4, 5 years? That obviously creates a problem.

I wonder if we'll ever see a game that really pushes PS3 to its limits, because by the time developers get there (assuming they haven't gotten there yet), will PS4 already be on the market? And if it is, why would a developer spend so much time working on a past-gen console? How many AAA PS2 games came out since November 06? I can only think of 1.

In a way, this is why I kind of hate that there are multiple consoles. It'd be nice if there were just 1, and the company said "this is the current console, and it won't be replaced for 10 years". Then developers could plan accordingly.

Instead we have Microsoft and Sony trying to compete, and Microsoft will almost certainly release their next console before Sony does. Then sometime later, Sony will release their new one. So we have staggered console releases, which seems like a disaster.

I apologize for the disorganized ramble-ish'ness to this post, as I don't really have time to go back and edit it into something more coherent.
