Too many wimps here. Go buy your Toshiba . You can sell it as an a paper weight a few years down the road. Better yet why not go over to the other forums and start getting buddy buddy with the hd dud fanbois, because your sounding like one of them just because you can't get Transformers. I was going to buy it but now I could care less.

The Indiana Jones Trilogy and Saving Private Ryan will probably still come out on Blu Ray I know there Paramount and Paramount is HD DVD exclusive but if you read it carefully the agreement did not apply to Spielberg directed movies.

Transformers was over-rated garbage. I could care less about any of the
paramount flicks except for GF I & II. Seriously, who here over 25 really enjoyed transformers? The movie was catered to children...some of the fight scenes with the decepticons were confusing enough (couldn't tell who was fighting who), also the scene where the autobots were prancing around outside the kid's house was ridiculous.

Lol, I have to agree. I downloaded it, watched it and thought it was ok. Its aimed to make money off the name more than anything. It was "OK" at best. Everyone wants it because it would look badass on Blu. That's where it stops tho.

**** Paramount.

I would have to agree with you as well, because I myself have bought a handful of blu-rays more for the picture quality than the actual movie (Pirates of the Carribean, Ghost Rider, etc...). True, Transformers would have looked awesome in blu, but to be honest I'd be ten times more satisfied with the animated flick transferred to blu than the live action movie. Sh*t...I'd rather see the Beast Wars series on blu than the Transformers movie, and if anyone doesn't know what Beast Wars is, you're not a true transformers fan.

Angry I am hurting right now!

This announcement came out of nowhere and it can only be the result of some serious cashflow that isn't even mentioned in the news! I am going to miss Gladiator and Transformers but I will just have to watch them upscaled on my PS3 as i will not be giving either of these studios my cash!

Actually, as a neutral party, with Fox's counterattack, I couldn't be happier with all the movies coming out.

You forgot the "instant classic" moment when Bumblebee pees (sorry "lubricates") the guy. I'm sure that is already finding its way onto an AFI list of all time great movie scenes.

I was overly impressed by the fact that the movie wasn't complete crap. Everything beyond that was just gravy.

I was planning on picking up the Jack Ryan collection and Top Gun, but with the Fox/MGM announcement I have plenty of other titles to spend my money on. I guess if I want the Mission Impossible movies, I should grab them before they disappear.

I can't believe the amount of overreactions I've seen in these posts today.

PARAMOUNT WAS PAID CASH TO GO HD-DUD EXCLUSIVE BECAUSE THE MARKET HAS ALREADY SHOWN THAT CONSUMERS PREFER BLU-RAY AND IT IS WINNING.

This is clearly an act of desperation from the HD-DUD camp.

Not only am I not on the fence, but I am now more committed to Blu-ray than ever before.

No, I am NOT going to run out crying and purchase an HD-DUD player. Doing so will be playing into HD-DUD's hands, and I am not sucker enough to fall for it.

By the way, Titanic is only distributed by Paramount in North America. FOX is the distributor of the film for the rest of the world.

When the Indiana Jones films are finally released in hd, they will at least be on both formats, and even possibly a Blu-ray exclusive. If anyone would bother to go back and read the last sentence of the news release, they will see that this HD-DUD exclusivity does not apply to any Spielberg films.

There was another disc format war over 20 years ago that was just like this one. It was between the LDA (LaserDisc Association) and RCA and their rival format, the CED VIdeo disc, which used a "needle in groove" approach very similar to vinyl records. I remember clearly that the CED disc was declared a winner over the far superior LaserDisc because the players were cheaper. Well, LaserDisc won out, and because of it the optical disc technology survived and gave birth to the Compact Disc, which lead to the development of the DVD, and finally, the two rival HiDef disc formats that are battling for supremacy now.

Today, everyone remembers LaserDisc, but I find that very few people remember or were even aware that there was a rival disc format at that time.

Such as it is now with HD-DUD and the superior Blu-ray disc.

So, STOP OVERREACTING and take a deep breath - relax and enjoy your Blu-ray discs 'cause there's a lot more coming. Remember, winning a small victory is not the same as winning the war.

It's clear to me that this format war is not ending anytime soon and with titles like Jurassic Park, King Kong, Jaws, The Godfather 1&2, and now Indiana Jones being exclusive to HD-DVD, I cannot imagine not having those in HD.
Didn't you read the actual article?

NONE of Steven Spielberg's movies are included in this deal.

Not Indy, Private Ryan, Forrest Gump, Jurrasic Park, none of them.

The ONLY Spielberg movie coming out on EITHER format so far is Close Encounters, which is BLU-RAY exclusive.

Default warner exclusive hd titles

Warner seems similar to Paramount. It has many older titles released only on hddvd,,Adventures of Robin Hood ,Casablanca to name a few. Hope this doesn't hold true for Ben Hur ,King of Kings and Doctor Zhivago?
