Paramount own the rights, and have the master. All Paramount have to do is release the movie on blu-ray, just like their other films. I have a feeling it's coming soon.

they might only have that old master for the DVD which was horrible and not even in the right aspect ratio

Default Ghost and the Darkness Blu-ray Release

Were approaching 2016, and yet no mention or at least a rumor from paramount studios that there thinking about a special edition blu-ray release. This movie is awesome and the the soundtrack was killer awesome. I can't believe there is still no mention of a blu-ray release. Paramount is releasing worse movies on blu-ray. Whats the hold up on this blu-ray release.

Yes, they need to release Ghost & the Darkness on Blu, pronto. The film has never even had a decent home video release; i.e., IIRC the DVD's were all "cropped" letterbox, not Anamorphic Widescreen...

The worse sign is that netflix have this now but the HD is the same upscale. No new master available it seems.

What is the difference between upscale and real HD

Upscale is sd converted to HD. Like watching dvd on your hdtv. Real HD have native 1080p resolution.

This is a real bummer. I, too, was excited to see it pop upon streaming platforms as that often heralds a forthcoming BD, but it is definitely the same transfer as the DVD. At least to my eye. Killer film. Deserves better.

I believe this has been on Netflix for years

while it may not be real HD, it definitely looks a lot better than the ugly old DVD

this is a movie the studio seems to have no interest in releasing yet seems to have a decent following. I can see a company like Twilight Time or Shout Factory releasing it one day.

I want a Blu ray of this so bad. The DVD is excruciatingly bad. Non anamorphic and ugly as hell.

Just realized this year marks the 20th anniversary. Damn! I remember seeing it opening weekend with my dad. We had it on VHS and then DVD, and always enjoyed watching it. Every so often he'll ask me if it's on Blu-ray yet. This year would be better than ever to finally release it. A Day One purchase for sure.

Went and posted on Shout Factory's Facebook if maybe they could maybe get the rights. Other people should ask as well

Does anyone know where you can start a petition request for GHOST AND THE DARKNESS onto Blu-ray. I thought Blu-ray.com forum was a start, but apparently paramount is not noticing the interest of this movie onto Blu-ray.

This would have a killer DTS-HD track. The old PCM and AC-3 tracks on the LD are still some of the most demoworthy soundtracks on any format.
