Bummer, I guess I have a "cheaper" receiver. Not a big deal, I know this one is better than my old Onkyo HTIB one.

Def not saying you have a cheaper receiver, I just know that my Sony HTiB receiver gave me that same display.

No problem man, but it is funny that the 1020 would show it differently than the 920, since they're pretty close to the same thing.
Still working on getting it calibrated...probably going to take some trial and error before I leave it be.

Hopefully I'll be able to enjoy it rather than obsess about every little tweak.

I don't know if there are many 920 owners out there yet, but does anyone happen to know if you can get the Dolby HD, DTS HD, etc. logos to stay on the display? Looks like they will scroll across when starting one of the formats, but then it drops off. I tried the "display" button, but it didn't look like it was an option.
I'd prefer that information, as opposed to the input assignment being shown.

From checking out the manual, there is a small character display under the large one on the left that will state what the source is. Depending on the source, it will light up either, DTS (for DTS encoded audio signals), HD (for HD EXPRESS or DTS-HD), ES (when there is DTS-ES decoding), 96/24 (when source is 96/24) and NEO:6 (lights up when one of the NEO:6 modes is on). Next to this small display is another and it lights up with the following sources: [X]D (Dolby Digital source), [X]D+ (when source is Dolby Digital Plus), [X]HD (when source is Dolby True HD), EX (for Dolby Digital EX) and [X]PLII(x) (for pro Logic decoding.)

So, it appears this is the only place indicated for what source is the audio. I don't think you can get it to show up on the larger character display above it that states the input assignment.

I hope this helps.

That's what it looks like to me too....didn't know if anyone stumbled on a way to switch it around. I know it scrolls it across the main portion of the display, but then reverts back to the small symbols after.

Perhaps AVS has something that could enlighten you? By the way, gave you a few reputation pts!

Thanks, I guess...what're the reputation points for? General trust of posters? I'm not a member on AVS, and when I've checked it out for stuff I've found it difficult to navigate. Probably just because I don't use it.

Yeah, the reputation points are like a gauge to tell if you can trust the poster and what they are telling you.

As far as AVS, you don't need to be a member to read the threads. I am sure they have one on these receivers already, and usually that site gets a lot more traffic than we do here.

More later probably.

Just ordered mine today, should be here tomorrow.

In a sorta answer to your question, this is why I use an SPL meter. You can get them from Radioshack on sale for about $25. I place the meter in the prime listening spot, and play test tones. I put the reciever volume at my "Normal" listening volume, then I increase each channel level till the meter registers 75dB. Presto! Calibrated! Plus it's something fun to tinker with.
Going to be hooking this up to the PS3 tomorrow, I also ordered Saving Private Ryan while i was at it

Million dollar question. I'm trying hold off on buying a Harmony One considering what I've already spent in the last two months. Soooo, does anyone know if there is a way to bring up the DVR "List" for a Scientific Atlanta cable box on the 920 remote? It's pretty much the only needed command I can't get.

I got the new 1020 and boy am i happy, but I do have one question:

Is it possible to shuffle the display menu so that it shows the input instead of the audio track.

(example: I want my PS3 to say PLAYSTATION 3 and not the very boring PCM)

I have already renamed the input.

Can anyone comment on if the output of sound in the fronts/center is too low and if so how easy would this be to fix? Right now I have a Sr606 and 3.1 for my room, but I can get the 1020-k for $202.73 (cause I have giftcards lol) from amazon and am wondering if I should pull the trigger?

Also how easy is the setup we have an SC-09 I set up and it wasn't overly hard but not nearly the cake walk the the 606 was. Just wondering if anyone wanted to go in-depth on the ease of setup/ Messing with settings?

supersix4: I don't have a problem with the fronts/center being too low. And it's very easy to change the volume level of all the speakers. It's just a manual adjustment that takes a few seconds.

merrick97: sorry man, I have no idea on how to change it. And to be honest, I don't think you can change it. It'll probably always say PCM when you are using the PS3. But actually, when I'm playing Uncharted 2, it says DTS I think.

Thanks for the input, I'm sure it should be an improvement over the 606.

Default 1120-K or SC-25???

Guys, I know this is a thread about Pioneer's 920k, 1020k, and 1120k but I have a question and would welcome any suggestions/comments. I have been waiting for the VSX-1120-K to be released since I don't think I would ever be able to afford a brand new Elite receiver. However, a local guy is selling his used SC-25 for $900. I know the vsx-1120-k model is new this year and has some new stuff like the 3D ready among other things but SC-25 is an Elite with the Ice amps. From what I read in the Elite thread, these receivers are nice/powerful.
What do you guys think I should do? If I purchase the used Elite, what are things I should look for? Supposedly it's a recent purchase but no receipt. Anyway, I don't know what to do. If it's a recent purchase and has never been registered, can I purchase an extended warranty for it? Is it worth it?
As you can see I have many questions so will appreciate your feedback.

Thanks for reading.

Frank, I personally have no experience with receivers with the exception of the brand new 1020 I just bought. Sorry I can't be of help, but I'm sure someone on this site can. Don't stress.

So far i am loving the 920!
Question:
Ok, Im using a PS3. Now i have everything set up correctly so it streams the Linear PCM to the 920.
Now, should i be using Auto surround, Direct, or pure direct? i understand that the LPCM signal won't trip the DTS-HD logos on the 920, but i just want to be sure to have the settings correct.
