Hopefully it comes with both Theatrical and Directors cuts of the movie and all the special features from the Directors Cut DVD more importantly the documentary.
If not I'll keep my DVD for the documentary.

Did the HD-DVD get the director's cut? The BD will probably get whatever the HD-DVD got.

Yep, plus the 4 hour docco (in SD). The HD-DVD was 1080i though (atleast in Aus, according to Tsmuxer).

+1! "I get all the fruity cases" , "my body, is a roadmap of pain" , "Ever heard of Nina Kulagina?"

Classic.

PJ's style is zooming in really close in the face @wacky angles and in/out. that's his style. even in LOTR he did it for Gandalf when he said the is it secret, is it safe line.

Unless it's really cheap, I'm fine with the great HD DVD.

What deadhatetheliving just said. I'll only buy this if it contains the Director's Cut, plus all of the laserdisc supplements -- but knowing that this is a Universal release, they're almost guaranteed to leave certain things off in order to "justify" the inevitable double-dip release down the road.

Love this movie! Can't wait to add it to my collection. R. Lee Ermey is perfect in his role.

All of the laserdisc supplements;

4 Hour Docco
Audio Comm
Deleted Scenes
Trailer

Seeing as all of these were on the DVD and HD-DVD, its safe to assume it will be on the BD.

I am also hoping for the director's cut here, but, if it isn't I'll probably get it day one anyway. Maybe Universal will do with this, what they did with King Kong, and include both versions. I wish that they would also release Meet Joe Black on blu-ray soon too.

Hopefully as others have said, this has both cuts of the movies and the extras from the DVD.

If not, I'll stick with the DVD copy. Cause it was nice to finally get extras for it outside of LD.

It would be nice if it has both cuts. I actually prefer the theatrical version, so I hope it doesn't end up only being the "director's cut".

This is good news. I remember going to the movies to see this as a kid, but I never heard about the directors cut after that. I love the movie so this is day 1 for me.

A blu ray version of the German four DVD set would be more than welcome.

FYI:

The DVD and HD DVD have an altered version of the Laserdisc supplement section:

The original four and a half hour (give or take) documentary on Laserdisc included a chapter running about 45mins dedicated to Peter Jackson's storyboards.

The R1 DVD takes this chapter out of the documentary, changing the running time to about three and a half hours. The storyboards are present on the DVD but on the film side of the DVD-18 disc.

The HD DVD includes the three and half hour re-edited documentary but the storyboard subtitle track is not present. In fact, the HD DVD is missing the 45mins of storyboards completely.

Hopefully, the Blu-ray Disc includes these storyboards in some form.
